Default Carrera 4 or 4S Cabriolet? Please help!

Hi! I am new to this. Looking to buy my first Porsche. Long time coming!

My dealer can get me a Carrera 4 cabriolet with a delivery in Atlanta experience by December. I’m wondering if I should hold out for the 4s? That would be sometime next spring.

Wondering everyone’s thoughts on the difference between a 4 and 4s cabriolet. The 4 would have the sports Chrono package and loaded. I can afford both but wondering if it’s best to wait for the 4s, performance and resale wise.

Thanks!

If you are looking for a manual, the 4s is the only option... If not, you really will not miss much from a first experience standpoint. The 4 is outstanding, and with the options you are looking at, you will not "want" much more. I have the 992 C4S and the Targa 4s in route (the only reason I did both is due to wanting a manual, which is not available on the 4). You will love it, and honestly the extra HP is not something that you need on the street. As an FYI the 4 is quicker than the C4S manual due to the excellent PDK. if you are looking for the best 0-60 bragging rights, go with the 4S, if you are not looking to break any records the 4 is a great option.

Depends on how discerning you are about the badge and getting what you want versus settling. You’ll undoubtedly enjoy the 4, but if you’re like me it would bother you that you settled and then you would end up selling it and getting a 4S down the road.

Probably for resale, the 4S will be ever so slightly better. But I don't think it'd be enough of a difference to make my top ten reasons to decide between the two. I have a C2S and I test drove a several C2's, There are a number of differences that go beyond the HP thing. If it was just the HP I'd be driving a C2 because on the street, you'll be hard pressed (legally) to max either engine out. What I liked about the C2S was the mechanically limited slip differential and the bigger brakes. The wheel sizes and choices are also different. 19/20's on the 4 and 20/21's on the S. Some folks are absolutely in love with the 20/21's, but to be honest, I can't really tell the difference and the 19/20 tires are much less expensive. Also there are a lot more manufacturers making 19/20 sets. The 21" rims really limit who even has tires available in the sizes required. Lastly, I went with the PDK Transmission so that wasn't an issue for me. But if you want a MT then you'll absolutely have to get an S.

Thank you everyone! This is very helpful. I’m getting the automatic not manual. My build is loaded, getting PTV+ too. Color is Aventurine Green. It looks like 0-60 is about a half second difference with the sports crono. I’ve only had a BMW M4 convertible in the past to compare.

long story short, my mom passed away last Xmas and I want to do something for myself. I can wait until the spring, they would both be 2022 models. I do sports car that handles well and I’m assuming a 4 would be enough. I mostly drive in the city anyways but I’m interested in trying out a track.

I test drove a 2019 4s (older body style) and the dealer said a new 4 is about the same horsepower. Seemed fast to me. Thanks for the help!!

I would say don’t settle. If you want a 4S wait the extra few months and get the car you want. I waited for the GTS to become available for this reason and ordered last Friday here in Germany (also Aventurine Green).

I am not a Cab person but I used to post on 6speedonline many years ago . I distinctly remember a forum member who could not sell his car . The C4 Cab is not exactly popular . No one on the forum wanted it . He ended up taking a bath and trading it in . It probably cost him more to own than the 4S .

Popularity depends on where you live. If you live in Alaska probably not but in Southern CA they are very popular. My last 5 second cars have been convertibles and have sold all of them within a week above blue book price.

Don't let people here make you overthink this.

If you have the budget, get the 4S Cab.

If you don't, get the 4 Cab.

It really is that simple.

Get the one you can get. Time is fleeting, you want to be driving, not waiting.

I have a 992S Cab (manual) and drove a 4 base at the track last week, the standard car is more than enough to satisfy your need for speed. I'd take the December car all day long and get thee to the Smokies and enjoy the car on the Dragon. The 992 is NOT the 991.1, where you really could feel a difference. Resale won't matter, what's important to the majority of Cab buyers is Automatic transmission (PDK), Full Cow Interior, 14 or 18 way seats and Bose Stereo.

If you frequently get buyers remorse, wait for the 4S. If you're someone that sticks to something and never looks back then the 4 will probably be more than enough.

If you’re even considering the S - just do it! Otherwise you’re gonna have that ‘what if?’ itch that someday you’ll have to scratch.

But where does it stop? If you are thinking of 4S, why not Turbo? Or a Portofino?
Budget is not always so clear cut. You could always buy a $1.9m instead of a $2m house and use the extra budget for a better car.

I'd say it depends on your driving needs. How often would you use that extra 64 hp? Does your driving environment/style allows you to utilize it?

Thanks everyone! I went with a 2022 loaded 992 4, pretty much all the bells and whistles. This is my first Porsche, the only other sports car I’ve had is a BMW M4 convertible. I live in a residential area of Minneapolis and I think the power is more than enough for me. Getting sports crono, PTV+, etc. with an Atlanta experience delivery. Car is scheduled to be finished in October. Otherwise the build wait is mid next year. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of enjoyment from it and maybe get a 4s when the next body design comes out.

thanks everyone for their help! I’ll post photos later when I get it. Excited! Here is what it’ll look like but with black leather.
