Default 992 7MT feel compared to 987.1 6MT

There's a high probability I won't get a chance to test the manual on the 992 before ordering it, so would be taking a bit of a chance. I'm not 100% on manual but probability like 98% decided. Any of you with the manual spend time in a 987.1 with a 6MT? I'm curious how the shifter feel compares. I had a 987.1 Cayman S and I really like the mechanical chunky feeling of the shifter engagement. Does the 992 shifter have a similar feel?

I had a manual 987 and now a 992 manual. The 992 is much silkier, and the clutch action is a lot smoother. Overall, I really like it much better than the Cayman, and I can say it is the best manual transmission I've ever owned-- but if you want something "chunky", you should drive a 992 manual before you take the plunge. It's different-- in a better way, in my opinion-- but you might find it too refined.

Interesting comment on the clutch action. Mine grabs so suddenly, that if you are not ready for it, you will stall it.

In short, pedal is smooth, engagement is not.

That doesn't sound normal. I'd have it checked.

Interesting... this car is the easiest car to stall of any manual car I've owned (since 1995). In fact, I stalled it this morning - on the plus side it restarts itself very fast

I’m coming out of a GT4. The clutch operation on the 992 is easier ,the shift linkage effort is lighter and fluid in the 992 but less direct and solid . Very easy car to drive smoothly but then again so was the GT 4.Will have to say the GT4 linkage was better. 992 is very good but not as good . But then again what do i know just my opinion. carl

I love the auto start! I always have to remember to give it more gas than I did with my 997.1. May be that the throttle response on tip-in is less. Darndest thing.

Thanks - I'll definitely try to drive one ahead of time, but this comment makes me feel more comfortable if that opportunity doesn't arise.

Default 992 7MT feel compared to 987.1. 6MT

I came out of a manual 991.2 Carrera T, into a 992 manual. I could feel each shift in the T, the rear end and differential were engaging. The transmission was very good including the short throws. It felt mechanical.

The 992 is More refined, amazing to me.

I would consider driving both and figuring out what is most important to you.

Good Luck
