The configurator updates have been implemented remarkably poorly. You'd think that a company of Porsche's quality could afford to hire a decent product manager.

doesn't this indicate that the manual look shifter like gt3 is coming to the rest of the range to replace the shaver?

If you look closely, this image contains the shaver AND the manual look shifter. Likely a bug in the configurator (of which there are many).

If you note, the GT3 shifter is for a 7 speed PDK. The shaver is for an 8 speed PDK. They had to put a traditional sliding shifter and used the manual plate and boot to bring it together for the PDK GT3 because it was an older gearbox.

Believe that Porsche has decided to "select" gears, not "shift" them.

The Geezers at the top of the pyramid can’t tell the difference. They’re equally amazed at good and bad quality infotainment systems.

No, no, this is only the first wave of innovation associated with the new "Hermaphroditic Progressive" design language at Porsche. In an HP-equipped car, you can gently request gear changes with the nubbin to indulge your feminine side, or demand an immediate unsynchronized power shift with the phallocentric Legacy Lever(tm).

They are both wired to generate the same CANbus control signals, of course, because Porsche understands that driver engagement is about the driver rather than the drivetrain. Unfortunately, Porsche also recognizes that there will always be those who simply refuse to accept change. For those customers the nubbin can be eliminated from the build for a nominal four-figure upcharge.

Is there a "transmission neutral" option on the configurator?

Absolutely! If the "Aluminum" Nubbin is a $750 upgrade option, I positively hate to think what an actual shift lever looking device would set one back.

So that helps explain why Porsche went with the larger, wider, more voluptuous rear fenders across the entire 911 range. Kind of like Kim Kardashians booty being grafted onto the body of a male marathon runner. Something for everyone!

Different, not older. There is a reason why Porsche did not adapt the 8 speed PDK into the GT models.
