It’s pretty common in car accidents for an unsecured rear seat passenger to end up in the front seat, or even outside through the windshield. The forces in play when a car suddenly stops moving are mighty impressive. And that’s assuming there are no erratic motions, or the car doesn’t roll.
No way I’d put something like golf bags behind me without having some means to secure them. It’s 100% safe. Until it’s not. And then it’s really not safe.
too bad there isn’t an OEM way to secure things back there, but I suspect the liability for Porsche was too high. They even took the stops out, as them being there would imply a storage purpose for that space.
I tried that argument way back in this threads life and got generally and ceremoniously told I was an idiot, so I refuse now to say you're absolutely right!

When I was working at a major automobile manufacturer (not VW/Porsche/Audi) I had occasion to be engaged with one of our crash test facilities. One of the test results that I recall, involved unbelted rear seat passengers. The result was the severing of the front passenger spinal cords ,when the mass of the unbelted rear passengers hit the tops of the front seat passengers seat backs. So, I’m not in favor of placing any unsecured items, of any significant mass, behind me in any car.
