I’d be interested to hear for people who are trading their current 992s for another one (like a Targa, TT or GT car that maybe you couldn’t get initially) what was your MSRP and trade in value?

My 992 C4S hasn’t even arrived yet, but I’m contemplating ordering a 992 GT3, for which I’ve been offered an allocation (with hefty ADM of course) or a Turbo (no ADM).

My wife wouldn’t likely let me keep both, so I’m trying to get a sense for what I might expect on a dealer trade for the C4S come next spring with a 9 month old car and maybe 5K miles. Obviously market could change a lot, but just trying to plan my moves reasonably intelligently.

If you're getting sticker for the Turbo, then I'd ask for MSRP -5% on the trade in.

Yeah, that’s about what I was targeting. I kind of over-option my builds ($165K 4S) who I do worry will impact trade. But on the flip side, they’ll get more margin on the new car too: TT (non S) will be around $210K and the GT3 would likely approach $225-250K with CXX).

Well, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. Used to be you’d lose 20-30% even in a year. But I’m hearing guys are trading their 911 and GT cars within a year for 5% below MSRP. I was offered full MSRP on a Spyder forward a C4S for example.

The opportunity to get an allocation / customize a GT3 Touring is a “limited time” option so that’s worth at least 5% of a C4S to me, especially if I get to enjoy it while waiting a year.

If you want to get an amazing trade in value, now is the time to do it. Folks have been getting close to original MSRP and seeing there cars listed at or above MSRP... used. It's unreal, but buyers want cars and dealers need cars to sell.

If you have already traded your 992 for another 992. What was MSRP of the old car, the new car, and what did you get on the trade?

I was in your position. Ive had a few scenarios play out that helped project my cars ‘value’.

1. I had a 911SC that I thought about keeping & I was offered $146k from a local dealer on my 992S @ 152k sticker (about 600 miles at the time). Dealer had ZERO 992’s on the lot. I decided to sell the 911SC & keep the 992.

2. A couple months later - my dealer I’ve done all my past purchases with offered $10k less than ‘trade-in’ value which was in the $130k ballpark (so I was offered $120k-ish) & offered a GT3 allocation for MY22 with $20k ADM. Passed

3. I was recently offered $110k trade-in for a MY22 spring delivery GT3 @ MSRP. Passed

I think the best thing to do - if you’re all in on the GT3. Sell your 992 privately now. Start fresh & start searching for allocations. The money saved not having the 992 would help pay for any ADM. Not to mention you’ll have a high probability of selling it at or right below MSRP in your area. In my case - I’ve decided to keep my car & wait for 992.2 GT3. I even put a deposit on one with my local dealer.

Sorry, I didn't see where you mentioned 9 months down the road. That number could be anywhere. I traded a 2019 TTS in to the dealer when they had very few 911's around and got $175,000 on a $201,000 build. The car was about 9 months old with 4500 miles.

It’s anybody’s guess on how long these insane used car prices will last; certainly not the norm.

9 months from now; perhaps still good—unlikely supply issues resolved by then and many more cars on the lot.

Wasn’t that long ago discounts on new builds were the norm.

I’m thinking medium term issue too; seems semiconductor shortages are reaching into household goods and phones now as well, who knows when it will end.

I’m pretty confident the 911 shortage will persists into mid 2022 at a minimum. Waitlists for higher spec 911s are a year deep even at high volume dealers locally.
