Default PCM - MIB3 Upgrade

Is there a migration path for 2021 992 to upgrade or migrate to MIB3? Is this downloadable (for a fee no doubt) or?

Pretty sure it is different hardware.

Don't feel bad... my order's not even locked and is set to deliver in mid-August... like a week before 2022s arrive, and I still couldn't switch to a 2022 allocation. I'm not worried about it though b/c I use iPhones and am glad I don't have to pay $360 to permanently unlock CarPlay, I like the look of the completely black roof w/ glass sunroof, I like saving $2K, I like getting my car sooner w/o worrying about CARB approval hold up on 2022s... At least that's what I keep telling myself.

Seriously though, life is short and your car's about to arrive. Enjoy the ride!

Stuff like this is a big reason why some will look for the ‘best of’ the previous gen cars. They grow tired of chasing Porsche dangling the carrot 🥕

I don't bother about it anymore. The likelihood of anything electronic working properly inside the cabin is dismal. I'm glad the way it drives. Silver lining of the crappy electronics and telematics is that I don't feel remotely tempted to pay for those services.

I really would like to see if CarPlay could be activated by PIWIS. The code lines are there, but my car already has it, so I can't test it. Same goes for the GT4/spider that can be optioned wo it or even navigation (+100k, in 2021- good job VW).

I was more interested in the evolutionary and scalability aspect of the platform with some nuggets being of interest: such as lengthening the 1 to 3 years of certain trial periods, display options. But as you, I don't feel remotely inclined to pay for marginal services, FWIW I find it cheapens the brand.

@John Mclane does your PIWIS tool give you the capability of doing software updates to your car? Or is that something the dealer has to do.

Since now I know we haven’t been getting any OTA updates 😂

Software updates are normally done through a dealer that's connected to the mothership. I remember several years back I drove down to Anchorage to fix something with the Touareg and the network was down; useless trip.

I'm not exactly sure what Porsche does OTA, but I've not received any updates either (maps, etc.).

For VW's most people use VCDS from Ross-Tech (https://www.ross-tech.com). I used it when we added a reversing camera to my daughters 2014 Beetle, it works really well and you don't need to connect to any factory services to use it. However VW themselves also sell a month-to-month subscription to their technical library containing all their workshop manuals and the like which are excellent.

Of course I've had Uwe's VCDS for years for my Touaregs and Audi. I also have a dated ElsaWin and ETKA copies as well as subscribe to AllData. I thought he was talking about core software updates not enabling cameras or adding a heated steering wheel or electronic brake controller as I did for the Touaregs. I thought of map updates or functional factory updates that should have been done OTA, I've not received any of them

The functional updates are what I was hoping we received OTA. Similar to Apple iOS updates.

I’ve received a map update since owning the car. Maybe two? Though based off the MY22 PCM update. Sounds like any software updates will need to be done @ dealer.

It’s not a huge deal - maybe current PCM doesn’t require any updating. Similar to 991 interface.

Fair enough; I've had my 992 for 8 months or so, map updates are OTA but other than that zippo.

Are these updates PNA or dealer driven? I've not received any map updates or any other OTA updates though I have enabled that in the Porsche connect site.
