The glory of mountain living! 3300 miles on the RS and only had to suffer through 150 miles in the city and on the freeway, the rest has been windy *** roads mountain roads. Going to Costco babe... 7 times lol.
The 993 is a VERY fun porsche around town! I don't really understand the 997 obsession for a great car around town (had 997 gt3). The 997 GT cars redline is sky high mph (long legged gearing) so you are going FAST redlining in 2nd, like 85 if I remember. 993 is a riot to redline around town and literally no one is ever staring. Just like these teslas zipping around at 70 no one seems to care however....
Pretty sure when I redline my gt3rs and scuderia around Santa Monica the police are looking for me 5 minutes later...Sure feels that way
A new cayman T or GTS/Gt4 would be my vote for most fun around town for a new car. 993 if you go used
No that's not the case. the 992 does not give me a thrill.... a G-model 911 or 993 or 997 has much more emotion than the dull 992. The 992 is refined...a GT until you push it hard. Missed the raw feeling in the 992. A classic for daily is not what I want because I want a reliable car. The Taycan is for daily fun. Have fun in your 992!
Man, I could not disagree more here. I've driven a Taycan Turbo S and a 4S. I had a 4S for a few days and tried it out as a daily. The weight of the thing and the complete lack of noise really killed the buzz for me. It just didn't feel as fast as it actually is. Personally, the sharp reflexes and maneuverability of the 992 is so much more fun to play around in traffic.
I won't disagree that more power would be nice, but few cars don't benefit from more power.
Cars suit their environment. I can imagine a Taycan being more at home than a 992 on those boring, flat, straight Dutch roads. In other places, not so much. There are plenty of them on our SoCal roads now but there’s still a shortage of 992’s.
Really, if you want fun in an older car buy a 60’s Mini Cooper S or Nuova Fiat 500. More fun than you can poke a stick at and nearly always legal.
Didn't want to offend anybody. Sorry if I did. The 992 is a brilliant car....but not my car. It is a true sportscar in every way. The Taycan not even comes close. I also said that the Taycan is more engaging...but it is not. I think it is more practical for daily commute and I think it can be more enjoyable as a daily than the 992. Every car will become bore eventually when used daily.
The 992 only excites me when pushed hard. The problem is when you push it hard you are driving way too fast for the public roads. The sheer power and instant torque of the Taycan is addictive and more enjoyable for me for the daily commute. The sound of the 992 is only good when pushed hard. The PDK doesn't help either for the engagement. I probably should have bought the manual gearbox instead of the PDK.
Although I like the design of the 992 more than the Taycan. The thing is when you get in a Taycan, you know it is the future. The 992 feels dated after the Taycan and the Taycan definitely gave me a more special feeling.
I will miss the sound of a flat six in the back for sure. One thing I will not miss is the lag of the 992s. It is definitely present and anybody who denies this does not know what he is talking about. The feeling is completely different compared to a NA 911 and it feels dead slow compared to a Taycan 4s. I know what you are thinking... when you push the 992 hard the turbo's kick in and then it flies. But the Taycan has disappeared beyond the horizon by then.
Here in Holland a lot of 992's are traded in for Taycans. We don't have those nice B-roads as in California for example. The Taycan is the better choice for a lot people in Holland I think.
I am very excited for my Taycan 4s delivery in August. I am saving some money for a classic 911. In the future I will buy a classic as a second car. I want a 911 because it is .... a 911. The Taycan can not replace a 911. The 911 is special and I think the 992 is special but more on the racetrack than on the public roads. It all depends on your needs I guess.

I am currently driving the 992 4S as a DD, my other car is 2014 Range Rover Autobio 3.0 diesel, the Range Rover started to get very boring (slow like a truck) and the interior technology is getting old. I find the 992 noisy and unpractical for daily use, what would you replace the Range Rover with ? I am with 2 kids and before the 992, I had a Merc S500 Coupe, which I miss the speed and the smoothness of that vehicle. Anything that would be practical as Range Rover and provide the speed and the smoothness of the S Coupe? What would you think Audi RS6 as a second car to 992? Or is it none sense to have a 992 and a RS6 at the same time?

BMW X5M is interesting, but not sure about the ride quality, if you're after smoothness. I've read the AMG G63 is improved, but still a little noisy. The petrol Autobiography Range Rovers are nice driving cars, but I think a new one is right around the corner.
RS6 is a cool car but more limited cargo capacity compared to an SUV and doesn't have the ride height. Noise and smoothness may not be what you're after. I feel like it overlaps with the 911 a little too much - it's basically a sports car in its own right.

I have an X3 M40i. It’s not too big, it’s fast, handles well, rides well, good seats, nice interior, dependable right out of the gate, get’s great gas mileage, has a good stereo (upgrade), and good options available. I have a tow hook and racks, so it’s also versatile. I’ve used it to tow, and it’s not so tall that I can’t get the kayaks on top. Fully loaded, it’s not too expensive, but lease mine so I get a fresh one every few years. This is my third and will have a fourth next year. And full disclosure, the BMW dealership, a good one, is nearby, and that’s a big factor as well. The brand isn’t as impressive as others, but its a good SAV that you won’t mind throwing stuff into.
My daughters fiancée has that identical vehicle and it is awesome but in my mind not worth any where near the neighborhood of $275,000. It has also been back for numerous warranty issues since new last year. His '16 Huracan and '19 Aventador were back and forth to the dealer for warranty issues constantly.
I have to apologize I'm afraid. I thought the Taycan would be more fun for me than my 992. Especially in everyday traffic, a Taycan seemed a wiser choice. After a weekend of driving a dealer taycan, I've come to the conclusion that the taycan doesn't offer much more than my wife's tesla model S. Sure, the interior is better and the Taycan steers better, but the experience is actually the same. This also leads me to conclude that Tesla has done something insane.
I have come to appreciate the 992 more and have driven the car harder and explored the limits more than before. Slowly the car has become more my car. Also the exhaust sounds better than before after 18k km!
I canceled the Taycan and now I have to pay 5000 euros to the dealer. If I order a new car (992.2?) within a year, the 5000 euros will be waived. This seemed a reasonable deal to me although I find it a bit strange as the Taycan had yet to be built.
Anyway, I'm glad I kept my 992. I just needed a little more time to really appreciate the car. Thanks again for all your input!
