Default PCM replacement due to map upgrade getting stuck at 50pc

My month old 992c2s got a map update over the air but every time I would cold start the car it would start the installation and get stuck at 50pc so I took it to Porsche and then want tk replace the pcm. This seems like a very intrusive change. Anyone with 992 have any experience with pcm replacement ?

It's appalling how bad Porsche is with the infotainment system. BMW is way better, and Tesla is in altogether a different league.

That seems pretty aggressive but a new one may be best for you. Heck, I took mine in 2 weeks ago for its one year service and learned they needed to replace the dynamic motor mounts, a coolant pump and the frunk latch. Nice they proactively address these things; sad that they have to. I called PCNA to share some of these concerns and had a technical question. Did anyone call back? Nope.

Have a TSLA as well - the owner experience and tech are like Harvard vs community college.

PCNA - the ‘P’ stands for Pathetic. The ‘NA’ - Not About to call you back. Disgraceful customer ‘care’

I know they have not been around long, but likening Tesla to community college is a bit harsh. With time they will acquire some class

Nothing wrong with cc; Porsche has done quite well, I’d say!

I can share my experience that porsche replaced the pcm in one day and no issues at all and all problems gone. initially my porsche ID wasn't registering in the PCM but later found out that their servers were down for planned maintenance. Tried again a couple of hours later and it worked fine.

Tesla is a technology company that happens to build a fancy case around it...... hence the valuation is larger than most car companies combined. We need them - don't get me wrong, but they are a tech company at heart.

Exactly right. Every company has strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I'd much rather have Porsche's driving dynamics over fancy infotainment technology.
Plus, all I use is CarPlay.

Wonder what sort of failure of the PCM module hardware escaped the factory that required a replacement. It's not like they're building millions of these things...

Maybe the dealer simply didn't want to debug the software nor wait for Porsche to interface with the PCM vendors...

i doubt the technicians have ability to debug the pcm like a sw engineer debugs a linux machine which is probably what a pcm is. its probably excrypted and closed shut pretty tightly with no way to access for shop techs.

Very true. Just like other major components like the gearbox, they've been non-dealer serviceable for years. Dealers just remove and replace them.

CarPlay sucks. I use it every day, but I hate it. Man, can you imagine if Porsche and Tesla teamed up on an electric drivers car?

Electronics of Porsche and driving quality of Tesla?
Reminds me of a joke about Churchill and a "beautiful lady":
She says: "Imagine if we had a child with your intelligence and my beauty!"
WC retorts: "But imagine if he had my beauty and your intelligence!"

They'll probably replace only the PCM, which is under the dashboard, passenger side if I'm not mistaken.. The screen is separate from it.

the CarPlay on pcm is Awfully stupid. It is 2/3 of the screen and font are tiny, and it can’t be full screened! I hope they can do something about it.
