Considering 992 S Manual coupe order, but how can I drive one first?
#16
I have a MT C2S on order, buying without having driven the 992 MT. For that matter, I haven't even driven a 992! Anyway, I just learned aoout the rev limiter in neutral today. It seems very low, I hope it's not an impediment to launching the car. I had a 997 C2S and I don't remember it having this safety feature. I'm confident that it will be fine, but gonna be hard to do any revving in the driveway or at stop lights!

Same as others, I test drove a C2S Cab with PDK last June and put in a deposit for a manual coupe. Got sick of waiting for an allocation due to COVID delay and found a new C2S coupe with manual on the lot in Colorado Springs and had it shipped to me in November. Just do it, you won't be disappointed. You can shift it very quickly and the 7th gear lockout prevents accidental 4th -> 7th shifts. I think the gear ratios are perfect for the power of the engine, 2nd gear is great for tight backroads and even 3rd or 4th still works if you aren't "going for it". Resale will be great when you go to sell it because its one of the last high powered sports cars with a manual.

I also had to take the MT on faith when I ordered over a year ago, and I have NOT been disappointed for one single second! It is crisp and has short throws, especially compared to some of the older 911's I've owned (had to put in a short shifter in one as the throws were way too long).
I really don't think you'll be disappointed and I did a poll last year on the number of MT owners on this board and it surprised me how high the result was. P.S. I thought the suggestion of finding other PCA owners was a good one as well.

+1 on the leap of faith. Optioned mine(C2S MT) - my only experience with previous 911 MTs being mine 996T - which was great. The MT on my C2S is fantastic - I wont repeat what others have stated already. I did take mine to a track day and pretty much the highest gear was 3rd on the straightaways. Yes, you wont be able to keep up with the PDKs but who cares..

Agree with everything already said -- my C2S MT arriving next month. Only got to test drive the PDK last June....but based on everything I've read here and elsewhere, I know I wont regret the leap of faith!

I just got back from my dealer and once again drove the same C2S Cab PDK, and found it to perform incredibly but also found it a bit boring/soft. Again, I don’t know if it’s my reaction to the PDK or what. Also didn’t find the steering as communicative as I was hoping based on reports of the new electro-steering. This is why I’m a eager to drive a manual..sometimes just one change like that can make the experience!
Its possible I’ve been spoiled by my air-cooled G50 and my previous 997. I really want to like the manual 992 and take the plunge!

Though of no help to you 3,000 miles away, I'd be glad to roll out my 992S Cab (manual trans) if you were on this coast.
I would say this, if your main interest is in winning stoplight races, the PDK is the way to go, The three pedal car is soft off the line and a bit of a drag (sorry, I'm not up for high rev dumps on the clutch), but when you get out of first gear, the fun with the manual in 2nd and 3rd gear is a blast. The car is so powerful, you'll be at 115 before you need 4th.

Duh Good call. I’m located in San Francisco.

How was the car optioned? SPASM and PSE should liven things up a bit. I test drove a minimally optioned 992 C2 PDK back to back with a 991.2 Carrera T. The C2 chassis felt tighter and more composed, but definitely a bit soft/boring in the absence of SPASM/PSE/MT. But that's the beauty of the 911. You can configure it as a comfortable, soft GT or sharp, engaging sports car.
