Does any else see a big roll when you put the car in park. I have noticed It more the longer that I have had the car. My cayenne does not do it. I have loaner pani, while the door rattles is getting fixed it does not move on a flat surface, like the 992. I should not have to use the parking break on a flat parking spot. Do you experience this

I get a very slight amount of movement. Both from my Porsche and our BMW. But slight is the operative word. Think in terms of maybe, at the very most, an inch. Enough that it's noticeable, but by no means dramatic or worrying.

Yep, it's a noticeable roll. After putting it in Park - and before taking my foot off the brake pedal - I activate the parking brake to eliminate the "roll."

Growing up we were taught that the park brake was there to hold the car, not the transmission.

Yeah I look to the brakes to hold a car in place, not the transmission. While I can't seem to get my kids to do it that way they haven't broken a car yet. I admit I'm kind of hoping they will.

The parking brake should always be used when you park the car. I know many people get in the bad habit of just putting the car in park but here is one of the main reasons you shouldn't.The parking brake is an essential component of your vehicle's safety system and it should be used on a regular basis - not just when the car is parked on a hill. While a parking brake is usually recognized as essential in a manual transmission vehicle, it should be considered just as important in an automatic transmission vehicle as well.
When a car with an automatic transmission is put into park, a device inside the transmission called a "parking pawl" engages. A parking pawl is a metal pin that engages into a notch ring that is attached to the transmission's output shaft. When engaged, the pawl restricts the transmission's output shaft from turning.
Unfortunately, parking pawls can break or possibly become dislodged. While this is not a common occurrence it can happen, and if it does your car may end up rolling down the street.
A parking brake on the other hand will hold the vehicle in place even if the parking pawl breaks or dislodges. The parking brake is a manual system that puts a stronger hold on the vehicle than simply putting it into park.

I always go to N in any vehicle, engage the Parking Brake, and then allow the vehicle to rest on the Parking Brake before engaging 1/R for a manual or P for an Auto. I want the vehicle held by the brakes, not the transmission.

Not much roll here in park.
On a separate note. Is there any way to get the car to roll without starting the engine to engage N or D? I would like to move the car out of the garage sometimes without the noise (!)
