I was thinking the same. Mine are fine but I always pull from the center, either way it shouldn't fail regardless of where the user places their hand. From peoples posts here it does seem like a design defect, could be a recall coming.

992 Door Handle cracking
I examined my 992 door handle. The body colored part seems to be a snap on separate part that may be cracking
There appears to be a black colored part that is actually the working part of the handle
The design appears to be stronger when grasping between the hinge supports rather than the ends that are not supported on both sides

As joe speed mentioned the painted section appears to be simply a painted cover piece over the main handle assembly, However, I am informed by Porsche that the whole door handle needs to be changed. As I think someone else said, I should be thankful it's not the whole door!

Compared to previous generations, we’ve noticed the door handle is harder to pull AND door itself doesn’t close as easy, which may add to the extra pulling of the handle to shut the door
Porsche is great about warranty, and hopefully this issue gets resolved

Just had my drivers side replaced due to crack. Appears to start from the abrupt 90 degree angle tabs of the cover as shown in the picture. Perhaps a redesign with a corner radius is needed

I bet Porsche is not happy about this since the new handle design may be deployed across the whole line!
Both the interior and exterior handles take a very light touch - just pull them to the electronic release detent and they pop right open. Pulling further gets the emergency door release mechanism involved and adds needless strain. Regardless, an under-engineered part if it can be broken in "normal" use...

Why they had to change the perfectly fine 991.2 door handle is beyond my grasp. The whole handle opens when you bring your hand close thingy is a cool gimmick, but it's a sports car, not a Rolls Royce.

Is this the result of ice forming in the door handle crevices or just pulling Handle outside the hinges?

in my case very light use, not aggressive and certainly no ice. I pull from the center when opening. She lives in the warm garage

So many things were not fully thought through in the 992.1...agrees with the eternal notion that one shouldn't be an "early adopter"
