Default PDK driving in MT mode

This is another bit of a newbie question, but yesterday I did some spirited driving in MT mode and at one point revved out to the limiter (8000 rpm).

In spirited MT mode what RPM range is it best to stick to for maximum fun and performance?

This isn’t a break in question and we’re not concerned about preserving engine longevity and being a good citizen. Fun, noise, and power are the objective.

^ I know that in automatic, Sports Plus mode doesn’t typically do that. That would suggest to me that best acceleration is not always achieved by staying close to the redline.

But I like how it sounds

Where does Sports+ shift under full throttle? I would think it would be close to redline but I don't know.

When in S+, the car will shift at redline under full throttle.

^ I will pay attention to that next time I’m in full throttle. Problem is, usually I’m watching the road and looking out for cops.

I do know that you go straight to redline after pushing the sport response button. It’s a pretty obvious transformation

Look in your owners manual in the specifications section is a gear chart showing horsepower/ torque and rpm’s. For spirited street driving shifting up at the rpm where torque starts to drop off will provide the enjoyable “seat in the pants kick”. Track driving is another story altogether.

^ Great suggestion, thanks.

I always just assumed that the PDK, in automatic mode, already set the gear shifts to maximize torque and HP, but perhaps I can improve on that?

One problem is the pdk modes are mislabeled. efficiency, normal, actually sport.
PEC instructor strongly encouraged me to just use sport+. But the manual selection is too much fun.

As you drive more, it should start to come organically. If you're looking for full power, yes take it close to redline. But for spirited street driving, you're only looking for full throttle for brief moments.

The torque of a turbo engine is much more forgiving with where you are in the powerband.
