Could a hybrid/electrified 992 be closer than we think?

An EV 911 with usable back seats is not really a 911 though.. its whole underlying principles, the weight distribution and balance, its sound will be different... and that's fine. Few models have a 60-year run. Just give this new electrified Porsche with usable back seats a new "9 number". Give the real 911 the dignity of being true to itself and not changed into something it is not.
An EV 911 is not a 911, IMHO. You just can't call it that.
I say that the luxury sports car makers should work together to create a carbon neutral fuel that you can purchase for ICE cars. Sure, it will be a niche market and you'll have range anxiety, but lets get real. Most Ferrari or 911 owners aren't planning to drive their cars cross country

As for driving across the country, the 911 is perfect for that as is a Ferrari GTC4Lusso or FF.

In its current form, the 911 hybrid is about 230 pounds heavier than the 911 GT3 RSRs run by the Flying Lizards team in the American Le Mans Series GT class. At its Nurburgring debut, the hybrid didn't have the outright speed of the conventional 911s, but it spent more of its time on the track thanks to its ability to achieve 25 percent better fuel efficiency. The use of so much regenerative braking, thanks to the flywheel's ability to absorb power quickly, also reduced brake wear. The brake pads on the hybrid only had to be changed once in the 24-hour race, compared to 2-3 changes for the regular version. The hybrid's on-demand all-wheel-drive should also give it a handling advantage in wet conditions.

I'm looking to buy some turbo batteries. I figure it would be the end of turbo lag.

If anything; an initial dip in 992.1's resale value, followed within a year, of a return to its previously existing depreciation curve.

It's going to happen...the when part is harder to say. You heard already the belief that the 992.2 will have a hybrid option.
It's much more exciting to consider the long-term future full electric 911 and what it means to be a 911, such that the functional characteristics that make the 911 look the way it does becomes irrelevant. I'm not excited to image the "new-Beetle" version of a 911, that's for sure. ...and yet many companies create their retro-looking product despite the functional irrelevance, simply because it's marketable. So, I guess we should expect the all-electric 911 to have the shell of an ICE version, with a tiny set of back seats, and this time, a frunk and a trunk.
The 911 is a rare vehicle in that it's design evolution has been tightly constrained. Ferrari has not taken this approach, as we all know. ...and remember how the 928 was intended to be the model that allows the 911 to ride off into the sunset? Porsche decided long ago, now, that the 911 is something to maintain for basically ever.

I'm rooting for Porche's synthetic fuel strategy. Lets not rule it out just yet. It might actually be a success. Sort of like Diesel, or E-85. Enough stations might carry it to make regular usage of a ICE possible long into the future....

They haven't even hid the fact that the 992 (specifically transmissions) were built to accommodate a hybrid power unit. They've said this since launch. So I'd argue its as close as I think, not closer. Certainly within 2 years we'll be hearing about it, if not seeing it in a version.
I'm not opposed to new tech if the driving dynamics remain. There's certainly something to be said for the torque that electric motors can generate.

Its all going to happen sooner than governments mandate. Purists and petrolheads (like me) might lament the death of the ICE, which is why I figured this was a last chance to buy this car. But the manufacturers are driven by $$$. Once the R&D is done, EVs have a fraction of the moving parts of an ICE car and with battery costs going down, profit margins are going to be way up.

^ Meh, Porsche doesn’t need to build the GT3 or, heck, even the 911, to make money.
You guys are way too pessimistic
Why would Porsche be spending millions on this efuel project if they weren’t trying to save the ICE?
I sort of wish that more automakers would contribute to this venture. I’m looking at you, GM. Ford, Chrysler, Honda, etc

Wouldn't it be safe to say Porsche builds the 911 to sell SUVs?
