Default Nub Cracks

Here's a new one... Never been a big fan of the nub, but mine is now developing hairline cracks in it as seen in the pictures. Don't know how or why, and will schedule a service appointment to have them look at it, but has anyone seen this happen?

I'm actually hoping mine develops cracks so I can go to the dealer and get the new aluminum billet version (obviously paying the difference in cost).

After more than 15k miles and approximately 16 months of ownership, mine still looks new.
What are you guys doing to your nubs?

Mine is a June 2019 build.
