Hallelujah- Dash rattle found
Starting at 5k miles my December 2019 build 992 developed a horribly evasive but consistent rattle that I could not locate for a month. Finally today I moved the (p)leather “skirt” (?) located on the top of the steering column where it meets the dash. Under the skirt is apparently a metal band keeping the skirt in place and stretched. This apparently had loosened just enough to create a hard to reproduce and locate clicking sound and with sufficient “tweaking” I managed to move it enough that the sound (occurring over light bumps or acc/deceleration) stopped.
in case anyone else has something similar since my dealer could not locate.
Amazing how much better the car feels when you find a small annoyance like this.

Interesting; I’ve had a significant, continuous rattle coming from what I thought was either the steering wheel or steering column. The dealer recently replaced the steering wheel, but the rattle came back after a few days.
Got me wondering if this is the cause of mine

This is the one rattle that was really getting to me. If I lightly tapped on the acc or brake it would make the sound or even over short, parking lot speed or higher abrupt bumps - but not always. Much like the chirping from a house smoke detector when it is out of battery nearly impossible to locate.

I had this exact chirping sound in the steering wheel area. I believe there is a known dealer solution to this. I read about it here on the 992 forum. Have your dealer search the database of known issues.

I started this thread when I was in the depth of my despair trying to find the rattle. I think I ended up (with the help of others here) realizing the sound was the gas tank rattle when more than half full, and not the steering wheel column. Had that fixed at the dealer and it has not made a sound since. Search for that on this forum and you’ll see quite few threads.

it comes from the metal belts holding the tank. Mine was changed to a different design belt sent by Porsche and was fixed.. but I think I’m May have heard it starting to come back. It’s been incredibly frustrating experience. I went 4 times to service about this

I have the same problem. Unfortunately there is not a thread titles “gas tank rattle” which makes it a bit more difficult for people to find. And others to express the same issue. Should I start a thread or can OP change the titles name?

Wow! I thought I was the only one. Mine as the gas tank as well! Sounds like it should be a TSB. They kept my car for almost 2 weeks and tore it apart. I'm super happy they found it! I got a picture while they were midway working.

Ive spent over 50 hours in the last year tiring different things inc padding the gas tank and straps..
Took apart lots on the consul and dash'
Ive just entered the fifth stage of grief "ACCEPTANCE" by turning up the radio and trying my best to ignore it..
After all what do you expect for 200grand?
The 992S i had also had a door rattle that i fixed with stuffing foam rubber in between the door and the panel.
