My installer said the exact same thing.

I just took those body panels off and stored them in the basement so they wouldn’t get damaged. Problem solved.

PPF = PAINT Protection Film. What am I missing here? If the purpose is to protect the paint - who cares if puling the top layer pulls the bottom layer when it needs replacement? Isn't the real question "For the rocker area, is one coat of PPF enough to protect the paint?" I answered this question for my 992 (based on experience with my other P cars with only 1 layer of PPF that I use as both daily drivers and on track) with a "no." I have 2 layers of PPF on my 992 rockers.

this seems to be the reason why they double it up, as I was going really fast, into a turn, turned going too fast, and two tire’s unfortunately on one side went off the track, a little, I was able to regain control on f the car, with out bringing rocks on or spinning, but the rocks hit my car instead of goin on the track. So this took a while to have the PPF “self heal some” but it’s still noticeable and there.
I was at spring mountain and two tires went off the track a little and this is what it did to the 2 layer PPF. If that has been my paint it would have been all the way to the primer or metal.

I would get the double layered PPF, as you can see here you cannot even see it here, on the hips, in the first picture. Them n even in the close up of the side where the second layer is you cannot even see it’s outline, if you are worried about it breaking if the form of the car, get the entire car wrapped in PPF then the hips get 2 layers

Double ppf on the hips is a must. It's also important to extend the base layer lower, farther back and higher. The original piece leaves small voids. I will try to upload a picture of mine. It looks fine but the peace of mind is priceless.
