I bought a new Escort Max 3 and Blendmount for a car I don't get for 3 months. I'm trying to figure out if I should get the Escort hardwire smart cord wired to fuse box OR a Mirror Tap only. Has anyone opened the mirror shell yet to figure out how to hook up? I'm brave but not brave enough to be the first one!!

Same boat here. Delivery date is 4/6 and I'm hoping I can use the mirror tap for the Escort then run the dash cam to the fuse box. I have a PPF installer who used to work for the Porsche dealer as a mechanic. I have a call into him as we speak.
ran a power cord run up to the mirror area - the line starts at the drivers footwell fuse box up thru the interior panels exiting from the mirror console towards the very front - wire end is only "unsightly" item - i never see it - passenger hasn't complained
V1-Gen2 - decided against BlendMount as well, due to past experience in corvette....after 40,000 miles or so the mirror started shaking loose - and looking closely on the 911 having the V1 under the mirror blocks off some vision, although minimal..it was more the fact of the V1 & BlendMount catching vibration and shaking the mirror area that made me go back to suction cups
Don’t mess around yourself in a 130-200k car. Have the dealer install the hardwire to the fuse box.
To the OP:
I think you can rip the band aid off and you'll be fine - its a fuse box....not a nuclear reactor...however there are people that are uncomfortable touching things like that - certainly understandable
the BlendMount install with their WireTap is about as clean as it gets !
I followed this exactly with a blendmount , blendmount mirror tap, and V1. Works perfectly. I did have to file down the negative mirror tap spear a bit to fit into the mirror connection.

Question, if the suction cups fail and the unit falls, that would pull out all of the wiring through the mirror and behind the panels with it, no?
Thats my concern. I might just screw hardwiring and just plug my radar detector to the 12v outlet, curly wire and all. Not as attractive but sure seems easier (and easier to remove!)

get the Blendmount. No suction cups and it just makes everthing look cleaner.
I used this mount placed at the very top of my window in-between the rearview mirror area and passenger visor. If a cop pulls me over, I can pull the passenger visor down and it blocks it from view. Out here, if a cop sees that, you are NOT getting out of a ticket you MIGHT have been able to get out of with a warning otherwise.

I did this last weekend. Took 30 minutes and I’m not a mechanic. Buy the blend mount tap pack that has multiple size taps and use a size one up from the smallest which slid in perfectly. The light console comes out (down) very easily once you take out the tork screw. Nudge the large plastic part that sits behind it straight forward towards the windshield, NOT down (#2 in the msile post bigworm generously curated for you) when holding the left and right sides of the piece and you can easily slide the tap cord through from the windshield side. You do not have to take piece 2 out, just slide it off the little spear hooks on either side that they sit on. You may even be able to snake the cord through without touching the second piece as others have suggested, but it was easier with it loose. The blue piece on the right you’re tapping into is a little hard to pry loose from the holder it’s in, so just make sure to spread the black clips holding it in place.
The hardest part of the whole operation was finding a tool to get to the tork screw under the mesh cover. I used a small thin pairing knife to pop down that mesh cover. Be gentle and start at the right corner closest to the windshield as It hinges on the left corner closest to the driver.
I wrapped the tap in electrical tape to make sure it stays in place. If you have questions pm me and I can walk you through it. It’s super easy and I never felt like I was in jeopardy of breaking anything.
I have the exact same detector in the exact same spot as bigworm, and totally agree on the blendmount. You are begging for a ticket or a smashed window with a detector in sub a prominent spot (both have happened to me). If you put the detector high up in the window close to the mirror the sunshade covers it when down and you can't see it at all.
The fuse box on this car is really simple both the access and find a switched fuse. I don't remember which fuse i have it connected to but only took a minute to find one that is switched.
Lastly, for all of you using uniden you can find a mount that has 3M tape on Ebay to permanently mount it.
