Question, if the suction cups fail and the unit falls, that would pull out all of the wiring through the mirror and behind the panels with it, no?
Thats my concern. I might just screw hardwiring and just plug my radar detector to the 12v outlet, curly wire and all. Not as attractive but sure seems easier (and easier to remove!)
The way the mirror console on the Porsche holds the wire in place, it definitely won't pull through under the weight of the V1
My experience over the years with the suction cups was never bad - yes, there were times the cup let go, but the power line held the detector just fine
I did use a BlendMount & their WireTap on a previous car (vette - 2015 Z06) - i definitely liked it - the WireTap install was 1-2-3 easy as pie and the BlendMount fit perfect - after 40,000 miles or so, vibrations took over, and the constant "pressure" on the mount caused the mirror assembly to loosen (thank you GM) and it became an annoyance - after 93,000 miles in a honda s2k and suction cups, it was a no brainer to stick to the suction cups for me - the few times (maybe 3 total) the suction cups gave way the wire always saved the V1 from falling....and a small zip tie held the wire from pulling out from the tuck job i did....the Porsche wire is held snug all by itself coming thru the mirror console
For all 93,000 on the s2k and 43,000 on Z06 (i had total of 83,000 on vette) i never removed the V1
Been running a hardwired detector for last 10-15 yrs on my car and never had mirror failure or suction mount that pulled out the power cord wire...if so easily replaced and tucked back into the liner BTW. Otherwise guys am not sure why you guys are so hung up on having the detector visible on the blend mount or suction cups....when in the car and driving and I am using it fine...its there and visible. If stopped...usually one has enough time to reach up and remove said detector and put it in center console, side pocket, or glove compartment while getting ones documents for the officer. I for one though never ever keep my radar detector mounted in the car at any time...yes that's asking for trouble anywhere you go. Sort of like the old days when you'd upgrade your stereo system and add those flip video screens and subwoofers and such and not be able to or forget to remove the screen and then have someone liberate them later on. If you guys removed the detector which any mount allow you to (not sure about the permanent one BigWorm showed) then things like theft and also worrying about suction cup or mirror mount failures I would think would be less of an option.
I did this last weekend. Took 30 minutes and I’m not a mechanic. Buy the blend mount tap pack that has multiple size taps and use a size one up from the smallest which slid in perfectly. The light console comes out (down) very easily once you take out the tork screw. Nudge the large plastic part that sits behind it straight forward towards the windshield, NOT down (#2 in the msile post bigworm generously curated for you) when holding the left and right sides of the piece and you can easily slide the tap cord through from the windshield side. You do not have to take piece 2 out, just slide it off the little spear hooks on either side that they sit on. You may even be able to snake the cord through without touching the second piece as others have suggested, but it was easier with it loose. The blue piece on the right you’re tapping into is a little hard to pry loose from the holder it’s in, so just make sure to spread the black clips holding it in place.
The hardest part of the whole operation was finding a tool to get to the tork screw under the mesh cover. I used a small thin pairing knife to pop down that mesh cover. Be gentle and start at the right corner closest to the windshield as It hinges on the left corner closest to the driver.
I wrapped the tap in electrical tape to make sure it stays in place. If you have questions pm me and I can walk you through it. It’s super easy and I never felt like I was in jeopardy of breaking anything.
Im tracking along and have everything disassembled but cannot get power for my 992 Mirror Tap. I’ve got the blue plugs on the right out of the holder but stalled out there…any advice?

Probably a silly suggestion but that supplies power only when the car ignition is on - it's not a constant source of power. Did you turn the car on to test the power?
Interesting,, your states still use radar?? Oregon is all laser,,, and radar or laser detectors don't do much for you.
Supposedly the gun they are using also tri-laser and can detect a jammer.. Still rumor but waiting to hear.
Also there are 3 wires in there to tap into - I forget which is the 'hot' wire that supplies the power so slide the metal tap carefully into each of the three wires while the car is on to determine which is the power supply (just re-read the directions - it's the white wire).

lol…I did make sure to turn it on and though you don’t know me from Adam that was a pretty good guess!
so just to be clear on sliding the tap in carefully, I’m doing that on top of/along with the existing wires, correct?
i guess the other question to clarify, we’re talking about a 992 here, correct?

FWIW, using the round ended tap did not make good contact for me (992), but the smallest flat ended tap worked. Just slide parallel to the wire into the blue connector. Once you have verified the connection, zip tie the taps to the wiring harness as they will pull out if you pull the other end of the power cord.

When tapping into the ground and hot wire with the little copper fins of the wire tap. You have to have a really small one for the power side (it is really tight) and hard to stick the copper fin down the side of the wire into the blue junction clip.
You can go on eBay and get a set that has different sizes (get the smallest you can) - it will then snake down along the wire to make contact in the junction clip. Or you can dremel the one you have down into a finer point - so it can fit down there. You may also be able to use some needle nosed pliers to smoosh (technical term) the copper fin of the wire tap so it is very small (needle like sized) to it makes connection when you slide it in.
Blendmount with Mirrortap here also I followed the instructions in the link posted earlier and it went smoothly for me... MUCH easier than the same procedure was in my 991.
I will note, though, that the pins provided on the Mirrortap wires are a bit too large to insert into the harness that you have to connect to. I had to file them down a little bit on the sides to make them narrow enough to fit.
Bumping this thread in case anyone is still doing it. Agree with brianja, used the Amazon referenced power cord with the smaller pins, had some trouble with the black wire, but tried the other side of the harness (same side they used in the pictures here) and it worked perfectly. After having a blendmount on several vehicles, one complaint that I have is their insistence on using 7/64 sized hex screws and adjusting it with the provided allen-key doesn't always have enough room. I bought a t-handled wrench (
Finally did mine today. Hardest part was figuring out which size to use. Thought I had a good fit each time but had to switch out the taps 3 times before I was getting power. Might go back and tuck the wire a bit more but that’s quick.

should come out through the front of the mirror trim. Will look much better. I’ll take pictures when I get home. You can easily chase the mirror tap wire by taping it to a large zip tie to pull through.
