I was worried about piano black, but after owning the 992, I'm actually happy with how Porsche implemented it. Unfortunately piano black is somewhat required for a car to look high-end and modern. If you look at a lower-end BMW or Mercedes, they swap piano black with standard plastic and it looks noticeably cheaper.

992's piano black is mostly in non-touch points so I don't have an issue with fingerprints. Main issue is dust which is solved by wiping with a microfiber once a week.

That’s where I am. Too many things would drive me crazy.

Blocked gauges
Homelink
Standard Nav
No autoblip button
Complex menu driven head unit
No manual offered in the base
Door handles
Fake key to turn to start

The car is gorgeous (to my eyes) and drives great, but the above issues would make my head explode. Hopefully, the 992.2 will address most of these, but I fear it will just get worse.

See, I don't get this at all. Yes, we gripe about some of these things here because, well that's how the online world works, but..but...but this is a magnificent car to own and drive. That engine, the chassis, how it all feels bonded around you; that all gets downplayed, overlooked even but is really amazing to live with.

Will a 992.2 be better, of course. Will a 99x be better than a 992, of course. But as they say life ain't a practice and starts here. Can't wait for perfection, you'll be waiting a long time, but this 992 is getting mighty close.

It all depends on your perspective and what you want. I think the 991 was a better car by my definition mainly because it was a lot simpler. In fact, I like everything about the 991 better. You can say, I'm living in the past, and that's fine. If the 992 is the future, then I guess there is no argument that I'm living in the past. If/when the Boxster/Cayman go electric, will it be better? Depends on your definition and wants, but I'll never own one. In 30 years when the 911 has 1000bhp, does 0-60 in 0.5 seconds and doesn't have a steering wheel, will it be better? Again, it depends on your definition of better. Many people think Tesla makes the best cars in the world. I think Tesla only makes appliances, but that's just me...

^ I think these issues are minor and simply being amplified because we are discussing them, and being specifically asked to discuss the cons of the car.

But in my opinion, the cons of the 992 compared to other model 911s are few and far between. If you are driving a car because you care a lot about tech, then for the life of me I have no idea why you'd buy a Porsche 911. Buy an Acura TLX or a Nissan and enjoy your life.

The value in the 911, as we all know, is in the car itself. The handling, the power, the sound, the look & the prestige. I've never even tried to use Homelink, that's just how little I care about that stuff.

The 992 is a great car for what it's supposed to be, IMO.

Not sure how the 991 is in the mix here, but since we’re comparing. Setting aside the buttonfest; the biggest issue I had with the 991 was the interior. Getting a 2019 991 was like purchasing a Porsche from 2004. They practically carried over the interior from the 997.

Porsche finally decided to join the 21st century with the 992. Making the car actually look & feel like a six-figure sports car in 20/21. I couldn’t imagine Porsche carrying over a turn-of-the-century interior again.

Regardless, any pure ICE 911 is going to be sought after when everything is electrified in 10-15 years. 🤣

Getting back on topic, I would say my biggest gripe with the 992 is not allowing the HomeLink icon to overlap the reverse camera. When I’m pulling out of the garage, I shouldn’t have to shift into park to remove the camera & then press the hot key.

Hopefully they can fix this with an OTA update. In the meantime - I back into the garage - or I just open/close using the MyQ app on my phone.

All of this is minor annoyance and would never stop me from buying a 992 again. It has exceeded my expectations in so many other more important ways.

Seems to me that the list of 992 "negatives" is akin to complaining that your underwear model spouse - who's also a world-renowned physicist and violin player, a model parent and a stimulating conversationalist - doesn't always hang up their clothes, likes Hawaiian pizza with extra pineapple and has an oversized big toe.

I was joking when I said I wasn't going to order one now because of these negatives.
I agree, great car. Love the exterior looks. Interior.....I'll reserve judgment.
Only real gripe is no base manual. Damn, will have to spring for an S!
Oh well.....

......but I'll also add that the 718s are better sports cars.
If someone wants a MT and wants bang for the buck, they're looking in the wrong place with the 992.

.

No, just the opposite. I hate “tech.” The 992 is too high tech for me, that’s why a bought an old tech Spyder.

^ But that's just it, you really don't have to use any of those options. It drives well, and fast

Fair enough. I've got a '73 Alfa GTV too and that's a great car but for different reasons. Lord knows it'll never see Bluetooth or CarPlay!
