Great thread, and quite pertinent given the amount of pandemic and financial stress out there.
Two comments:
A dash cam is a good idea, understanding however that it can be used against one self though that scenario is not very likely.
Saved my bacon in a big way when a food truck with disconnected brake lights hit the brakes hard, put it in reverse and backed into my car.
The ladies got out and of course said "oh, we are so sorry!"
They predictably claimed I rear-ended them and had their chiropractor and attorney all lined up and ready to start the cash register to the tune of probably 1/4 million dollars.
Then came the email of the dash cam video, case dismissed, my car was repaired, and the driver's privileges were suspended. If I were dishonest I could easily have racked up a six-figure payday with the video.
There is a great thread on Rennlist about dash cams. The Garmin dash cam mini looked best to me based on that thread. I like that it is small and supported as a major brand.
When I'm seriously concerned about a yokel on the road, I will and get off the freeway and take my time getting off the freeway and then back on, and let the dangerous driver get well out of sight and be sure I don't catch up to him. Better safe than sorry. Especially with how many guns have been purchased in the past year!
I read a sobering (pun intended) statistic that at night one in 10 people on the roads in Los Angeles County is under the influence; better to (literally) steer clear.
