My dealer has plenty... they just got in 3 2021's that no one wanted to spec and have 3 2020's on the lot still that they can't move. From the midwest though so not the best "sports car" market IMHO.
I am sure if they priced them to move they would move them
Problem is that the dealers find it hard to come to grips with the fact that Covid or non Covid no one is going to pay MSRP less 1.4% for a 2020 car. Before building new I spoke to dealers who made like they were doing me a favor in entertaining a 3% discount on a 2020 at the same time that 2021's were starting to show up. There are many of us that would gladly buy out of state if the price was right. Also I think that sometimes when they spec these cars they are specking them purely for those with money to burn who only want a Porsche badge and so when an enthusiast shows up they are of little interest as invariably they have left our things that an enthusiast would want and piled it with things that most of us don't really care about.
They actually have some nice 2020 cars. I wonder when they got them in as when I was searching through autotrader and cars.com in the fall they never came up in my search.
They are all relatively simply spec'd but have PSE and SC which is nice
Porsche are building fewer 992's since they are focusing more on the production of the Taycan electric vehicle. That is the reason there are less allocations to be had.
Don't know who's your source, anybody from Porsche in Stuttgart or just somewhere in Germany?
But the Taycan is build on a different production line. So does not interfere with sports car production. For sure there is a production backlog from CV19 lockdown in spring and, more improtant, the sales numbers for the 911 increased by 1% compared to 2019 according to official Porsche News. Another reason for Q1/Q2.21 will be the start of GT3 production. Long story short, they are running close to capacity limits.

I understand there is also a component of more cars being sent East rather than West due to increased demand. from the East.

They have had them since at least August as that's when my search began and they had those 2020s on the lot
Yes some of this is just supply and demand....COVID19 has complicated the supply side of things a bit but it seem the at least in the US and Canada supply in the form of open allocations has been throttled back from what previously many dealers have seen. Also they are being released every 2-3 mos or quarterly which may affect flow of avail slots/builds. But they are out there...my dealer did get an open Carrera S allocation when I placed my order in July but there was one buyer already in waiting ahead of me who go that however luckily my SA was able to trade for a Carrera S slot the following week with another dealer...only caveat was it has a lock date about a week after my initial build was submitted. I was cool with that to get an allocation as I'd pretty much locked down what I wanted give or take a few options....so they can be had but you or your SA may have to be willing to work for said allocation. Good luck...
