I feel for Dan, what he's been through makes no sense. Other than that personally I just want a car that arrives on time, works as expected, and that the deal is as agreed. Oh - plus decent after sales service.
Pick up mine this week so will see. If I get something great..if not okay...mental note made. i usually ask them for at least a hat or t shirt or keychain as its kinda like my superstitious tradition to do so with EVERY car I've ever purchased. I know with my RS5 purchase last year the SA was great and actually sent us to the gift shop and said "bring me back what you want!" Wifey got a jacket and shirt, I got a jacket and two shirts but then again we bought TWO cars from them that day so why not as I went in for my car and ended up trading my wife's Cayenne in too as she wanted to go back to a smaller SUV! . So yeah I think it is dealer dependant.
These sales and dealership weasels only care about your money going into their pocket. Nothing more. Nothing Less.
Just because you paid more for the car than some **** box GM or Ford doesn't matter, you are dealing with sales people...be it brand new or at a used car lot. Just like the aftermarket vendors you buying a Porsche just gives them the right to charge you more for EVERYTHING.
You're naive to consider otherwise. If you want swag then ask for it some sales people are just clueless or they just don't care about you. The only relationship they care about is your money in their pocket.
Screw em. Buy what you want where you want at a price you are happy with and move on. Life is too short for Porsche dealer games.
For what its worth at my delivery today...dealer gave me keychain x2 with Porsche pen package, a 2021 Porsche calendar, and a free key replacement package option for 84 mos on my car at delivery today. Offered to discount wheel and tire protection also 15% but I declined. I did gift my SA a nice Steve McQueen Porsche poster and a manual preservation society t shirt just to say thanks!
My loyalty gift for my 991.1 GTS: Gratis clear side markers.
My loyalty gift for my next 911 purchase (from the same dealership - Porsche DTLA), a 991.2 GT3 Touring: A $10,000 ADM, not including a 9% CA sales tax on said ADM. Would I do it again for a PTS Touring allocation? Absofudginglutely!

I got my 992 C2S from Porsche DTLA, and that's great to know as I would love the new GT3 in 3-4 years!!
The last Porsche I bought, a 991 GT3 RS, I got clear side markers, a Porsche Motorsport jacket and a small die cast model of my car (in a different color however) as well as the key trim in the color of my seat belts at delivery.
I think it just comes down to being willing to ask.
I asked once and once only before they delivered my 992 TS and ended up with over $1000 in gifts (jacket, bag, cups, keychains, mugs, chargers, posters, 911 book, paperweight, gifts for wife and kids). There's nothing wrong with asking to get what you'd like. They were happy to oblige and it didn't diminish the authenticity or tarnish the intent behind the gesture. I think not asking can end up causing more frustration.
