Default 992 Production

Ordered a Carrera S a few weeks ago and my order still does not have a build date? My dealer tells me there are factory delays on the 992's, I'm just wondering if anyone has heard anything or what your dealer has told you about production. Thanks

Do you have a commission number? If so, your SA should be able to provide a schedule with estimated milestone dates. Whether the production of the car proceeds as per the schedule is another issue entirely. My Cayman GTS is apparently built (I have a VIN), but the latest schedule doesn’t reflect it. My dealer is unaware of any production issues, but with the second wave of Covid hammering Germany, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more delays.

Yes, get a commission number from your dealer. Many dealers take 'orders' for allocations they don't yet have. And yes, good chance industry in Germany will have a shutdown soon:

As of today, it looks like bars, clubs, and restaurants will bear the brunt of the latest mini-lockdown. Who knows what tomorrow holds? Our car’s slated to be built next week...I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Yes, hopefully you'll be OK. Seems like the authorities are taking into account the steps industry took after the first wave to allow production to continue

My corporate HQ is German and we supply raw material to auto suppliers in Europe. Rumor is that auto plants will not shut down again but will continue to operate with strict COVID measures. Overall, sales have somewhat rebounded globally and no one wants to interrupt that. I will have more Information on that on our next Teams meeting next week.

As an aside on TYD what does it mean when it says scheduled for production?

My lock date was 10/23 and my scheduled for production date is 11/13 and start production date 11/20
If my car is starting production on 11/20 arent I already scheduled for production? What is that milestone mean a week before starting production?

My local dealer says:

1) There are NO 2021 911s currently in the country
2) There are only 6 in production.

Says it will be "months" before any hit the shore.

You dealer is full of $h!t. I'd try and find another dealer; one who actually has a brain!

@Bluehighways I have to agree with you.

While there might be no 992's having passed emissions there are several hundred waiting to be released and right now the factory is in full production.

What he probably means is: Give me your deposit and pay MSRP because I am the only dealer that can ensure that you get one of those hitting the shore in several months.

What he should have said is: There are hundred of 992's waiting to be released. Some of them are unspoken for dealer builds, there are currently no available MY 2021 allocations for 2020 but some will be released soon and more in 2021. Yes there are concerns for another slow down if the factory closes but at this time there is no indication of that.

I was watching a fascinating Porsche production video on you tube and what struck me was that even Pre Covid for the most part workers are usually pretty far from each other. I could totally see a safe working environment bieng compatible with ongoing production.

January allocations just released in the US. Just got my commission number, and I had a couple of dealers calling with allocations.
