Default Poll: Will the 992.2 Carreras be GPF'd?

Just a show of hands...who thinks the 992.2 Carrera models will be GPF'd (gas particulate filtered) like the current European cars?

The Turbos have particulate filters globally. I think that it's almost a certainty that the US 992.2 Carrera cars will get them as well, especially when you consider California and the states that adopt their emissions standards.

It's a shame really, because the US spec 992 cars sound legit good -- big improvement over the 991.2 Carrera cars. I am sure that Porsche will try to make up for it with more power. :P

Yes, the global GPFs on the Turbo models does not bode well for no filters on future Carreras.

I will say also: The in-cabin sound I've heard from GPF'd 992's driving the Nurburgring is still pretty good. May sound lame from the outside, I've heard very little outside the car.

Does the sound improve quite a bit (even if it is only for a few moments) on GPF'd cars whenever the wastegates open?

Keep in mind there are also sound restrictions in Europe and in Cali...

I think most are still wondering if the MY21 cars will come with it.

There was no announcement. I guess we'll find out in November, when the MY21 cars get released from port.

Why else would they be holding the cars at port? Something more than a model year had to change to cause such a delay, I bet it's the GPF being added and now being "tested" by the EPA.

There's exactly a zero percent chance MY22 cars don't have the GPF, let alone the 992.2. Period. Every other Porsche coming out of the factory has it for all regions (718 GTS 4.0, etc..) it was only the 992 that snuck through for the US.

MY22 cars will likely have it, yes. I hope that the MY21 cars come through without filters.

We'll be counting on everyone waiting for their MY21's to get under the car and break the news to us!

Not a stupid question.

It's been done for other marques, but it does require a ECU tune, which would impact your OEM warranty.

Not a dumb question!

I've no doubt they are removable, but doing so would reduce the back pressure to a degree that may require an ECU tune. It's more involved than at first blush, and I think it would pose a risk to the warranty.

Edit: I took too long to reply and @ipse dixit said it more concisely than I did...WITH links!

It's not great news, but as long as I can still get a fully ICE'd 911 for the next few years, I'll be happy.

Worst comes to worst, I'll just pony up for an Akra or Capristo exhaust and the make the most of it if I decide to keep the car for a long time.

EDIT: Can someone more knowledgeable than me comment on how the waste gates opening effects the exhaust sound, if at all (now this could be a stupid question!)?
