Default Is it okay to open/close the doors using the window glass?

I was told a long time ago to never open and/or close vehicle doors by pushing/pulling on the glass since it would eventually lead to problems with the windows and instead use the metal door, but I've seen tons of people doing just that on their 992, including even Magnus Walker during his review on the manual 992 C2S. Is this no longer an issue with modern vehicles?

I would avoid doing so.

I usually warn anyone getting in my car that if their finger touches a glass surface I'll have no choice but to break that finger. I may just be an a**hole but I can't see a single reason for fingers to every touch glass.

There's not a lot of room for misalignment with the side windows in a 992; they need to snug up against the weatherstripping just right to tuck up under the window frame and not make noise at speed. Anyone who knows me is aware that closing doors with windows is verboten. If it's someone new in the car, I ask them at the start of the drive to not use the window to close when getting out.

I don't do it, why would anyone purposefully leave finger prints all over glass?

You can use the palm of your hand on the edge of the corner of the glass and not leave any fingerprints. I do it all the time and see no issue with it.

While I try to only touch the door handle, Ive done the same thing on three seperate 911's without issue.

If only I could electrify the windows like barn fences... maybe, maybe it would keep the kid/wife prints off. Alas, no prints on the driver's side window. The 1/3" window trim is clearly there for a reason.

I close the door often using the side of the glass. No finger prints.

Why even ask? It's an obvious no-no. Magnus Walker can afford to not care. I can not
