Default Tire roar and road noise

Believe me...I love the noise of a sports car, but tire roar and various iterations of rocks in wheel wells just doesn’t appeal to me. My GT3 Touring (that we are keeping) sounds awesome as is and in wouldn’t change a thing but that experience is not what we are after in the 992 Targa as a weekend cruiser ....which we haven’t heard. The reviews of the car seem to indicate it is a slight improvement over the 991.2 but that it is still noisy. I had a 991.1 TTS that (to me anyway) was much quieter than other 991 models - not sure why. Can anyone offer a real world opinion on tire roar/ cabin noise on the 992.1 as substantially better than the 991.2 and if not, suggestions in dealing with it such as tire pressure or sound deadening. I heard the lightweight glass helps but not available now on the Targa. Any ideas or solutions....or is the 992.1 perfect?

Just a quick reply - the 992 is much improved over the 991.2. The awful tire drone has been replaced by a better exhaust note. I have no idea how this translates to the Targa.

that is comforting Dan....we ordered sport exhaust which IS NOT the issue but rather the roar/ drone of the tire...and my vanity insists on the 21” rear wheel option..so smaller tire/ wheels are not an option. I know I’ll hear “take another car for the weekend” as a suggestion....but with this problem solved...I do believe it is the perfect car for us.

Yes, my 991.2 was a C2 with 19 inch rims, and the C2S with the 21” rears is much better. Have no worries!

If it bothers you, and a pinch of under inflating isn’t enough, there are much softer tires available than the performance summer tires.

Yes I'd see how you like it and if it's too much, get quieter tires and install some sound deadening. I believe there have some posts about sound deadening installation.

It’s still really dependent on road surface, on concrete or coarse chip seal for example it’s really loud whereas smooth tarmac pretty good. At least in a coupe.

How loud will depend on all the above...plus what tires your 992 come with from the factory and how much they're worn. I got Goodyear F1s on my C4, and now with 9,200km on my car, the rears are at 5/32 to 6/32 tread depth (fronts still at 8/32). I've just started noticing more tire roar than when the tires were new. At this rate of tire wear though I'll need new tires (PS4s) pretty quickly.
