Default A charge for programming the key???

I was in negotiations with a Philadelphia area dealer (which subsequently broke down with no deal) but one of the line items was a $300 charge to program. My keys
Is this for real or just a ploy to increase their profit margin. Never heard anything like that before and never paid that for either my Boxster or Macan

Thanks

The charge is real. It cost me as much for the BMW. When you own expensive cars expect expensive service.

This was noot a service or to replace a lost key - this was to take possesion of a new car. Kind of felt like the Etching scam that dealers used and still use.

I have definitely NEVER had to pay that on any of my Porsche's; in fact this is the first time I have ever heard of this particular line item. I wouldn't pay for it either as the keys automatically program themselves to store your settings.

Thanks - thought it sounded crazy. That was not the only thing that steered me away - They give me a great deal on the car and then undershot my trade in (718 Boxster) by 5K compared with what 3 other dealers had offered me. At that point I decided to leave.

Never heard of such a charge either for a new car. In the 3 case I bought a cart with a programmable key, no dealer ever talked or charged me for programming the key. Good luck!
The owner's manual will detail how to do it yourself.

Absolutely never. What dealer was that so we can avoid them?

What a bunch of S**t! That's part of what Porsche pays a dealer to do as part of the Predelivery process, also known as the PDI. IMHO it is time to find another dealership to do business with!

Agree
They can always charge for "undercarriage protection"

But only if they employ a new (soft bristle) Toothbrush and use only fresh homogenized Mouse Milk that's been fortified with vitamin BS.

I would prefer not to post online but anyone who is even considering buying in the Phila/South East PA area can feel free to DM me and I will give you the dealership name

I would report it to PCNA. My guess is they consider it as part of a new car purchase and would not allow dealers to do that.
