Default Options / Features: Better than Expected Edition

There are threads on features owners wish they had gotten and threads on dubious ones. (Hello, Comfort Assist! Are you there? Comfort Assist? What about you, HomeLi….). But here’s to those that deliver more than expected.

PDCC. I was on the fence about this. It’s expensive. It requires RAS and a lithium battery. Porsche introduced it in their SUVs – hardly an origin befitting a 911. But I checked the PDCC box. With it, zero body roll while turning. It’s uncanny how anchored the car feels in twisties.

Adaptive Cruise Control. Aside from doing what it is supposed to do, ACC displays the speed of the vehicle ahead as a little green marker on the speedometer. Unessential, helpful detail.

Optional seat backs. Unlike the Cab, the coupe has a big backlight with a black glossy insert between it and the engine grill. The dark interior on this car just adds to the empty space. Optional seat backs lent mucho character to the rear view and shot a mucho big hole in the budget.

A 992 is a great car without any of these peripherals.

Good thread and good idea!

Surround View. Yes, I know some say its not needed but I absolutely love how I can see the actual front of my car as I approach a kerb or wall. Especially with the SPASM lip which is very exposed.

Agreed on the ACC.

I have to say that the PDLS+ headlights are pretty great. Better than expected, especially with the way that they articulate and turn.

18 way seats are an option that I am really glad that I spec’d given my long distance drives in the car.

PCCB

Haven't really touched my wheels to clean them, which is sort of amazing. The brakes themselves look absolutely killer. Actual braking performance is video game like - crazy good.

I'm surprised how big a difference they made in the overall feel of the car.

The 18-way seats exceed exp[ectations. Even after a couple of back-to-back 1000 km days, there was absolutely no fatigue, no aches, no issues......pretty damn brilliant.

I echo the PCCBs, (the pedal modulation is exceptional, as well as the stopping power), 18 ways, ACC and add Matrix lights (they are magic), anything alcantara and the Sport-Tex seats, they all exceeded my expectations.

992 C4S - Alcantara and Sport-Tex seats.

I agree. The performance is terrific. I also agree with those who attest to improved handling due to the lower unsprung weight of ceramics compared to iron rotors. On the reduce brake dust, as someone pointed out on another thread, it's a lot of money for no brake dust, but the wheels used to determine when I had to clean the car. That's no longer the case. No brake dust, fewer washes, and now it takes less time to clean the wheels than to clean the rest of the car. Very happy with PCCBs.

The Sport-Tex was better than I expected also. I wanted a black interior. The Sport-Tex added subtle interest, its reminicent of the hounds-tooth upolstery of early 911s, and its comfortable.

Exactly why I ordered it.

Air conditioned seats. First car I've owned where it actually cools you down.

Also, the 992 as a whole. Coming out of 2 previous Cayman S (981 and 718) and always reading about their near-unbeatable handling and overall performance, especially as compared to the 911, I wasn't expecting such a jump when moving to the 992 C2S but wow...what an amazing car!

The other advantage of Sport-Tex is how well it blends with the standard interior, knurling on the switches, etc. Looks like made to match.

For me, I was more than a little surprised at how well the 7 speed manual works (probably because I never got to test drive one). It's a nice short, crisp throw, I like the feel and height and I even like 7th gear when I'm on the interstate cruising at 80.

Along with this, I greatly appreciate the low end torque when driving something like the Tail of the Dragon (318 curves in 11 miles) although I'll admit the PDK would be nice as well.

Porsche manuals have come such a long way. I recall when someone compared the stick in my 84 Carrera to a baseball bat in a bucket of marbles. Now....snick, snick

A better than expected feature is just how good the car looks - from the wider front fenders to its bulging hips and lower roof lines. Every angle, great lines. But that's been true of almost every 911 model.

Some protest that the 911 is a stale design, and there may be some truth in that. But I like to think of it as a fixed form like a sonnet or a fugue. The enjoyment comes from appreciating the artistry and creativity of the stylists expressed within the limits of the form.
