Default Door 'dribble'

Has anyone else noticed this on their new 992? Looks like some sort of excess lubricant dribbling out, it keeps appearing within 1-2 days of a wash. Wipes off easily enough and oddly we have a '14 Beetle which did the same thing when it was new so I'm wondering if its some sort of VAG build thing.

Thanks

I had that too. The windshield washer container is probably overfilled and drips out. Just empty it a little and this will stop

maybe but it happens on both sides and the washer bottle in the beetle is at the front of the engine bay. I’m wondering if its excess lubricant applied to the door hinges during manufacture.

It's the cavity wax.

thanks! I did a quick search and folks over on a VW forum were saying the same thing. Seems VW uses it on all cars shipped.

I watched a 3M video on cavity wax but what the heck is it? Just a wax that is on the surface? Eventually it will dissolve won't it?

Not just a VW issue.

Cavity wax used by manufacturers to protect undercarriages and body panels...will go away eventually...Not to worry as it will not damage paint, unless removed improperly.

Thanks all. Agreed, it wipes off easily, much better than the fish oil people used to use! Man that stuff smells. I see Ziebart are still in this business too, things you learn.

I disagree on the cavity wax. Its only after a car wash. If it was cavity wax, you'd see it anytime NOT just after a car wash. And that stuff is thick like.

The car wash water (typically special clear drying water) leaked out from the hood area once you drove it off, dried clear and then dust hit it.

I'll go get a sample later on and see what it's like. It should be easy enough to tell.

Never heard of cavity wax. Definitely happens after a wash for me. Comes from the mirrors too. Seems like there’s just a lot of places where dust/dirt settles on this car, and water/wash brings it out.

I have no "dribble" after a wash. Have never seen this on any of the 4 Porsches I've owned.
