Quite possible if high speed crash or on the track.
If I was trapped inside of a car with a fire extinguisher, I would only use it to break open the window to either crawl out, or open the door from the outside.

My son flipped one of my cars and was trapped. He was finally able to kick a side window out. So that is another good reason to have one. All I know is that if I came up again on somebody whose car was just starting to catch fire, I would be ready to hand over the fire extinguisher. I guess some would just keep driving.

As for the comment above about “cool factor”, well, if one was going for a race car kind of look with wings and stripes, maybe that would be true. But with 14- and 18-ways, it’s tucked under the extended seat out of view as seen in the above photos. But maybe that comment was just meant to troll?

The only issue is that if you are entering an event that has a fire extinguisher requirement, it will probably not qualify. Not because of performance but because of a lack of certification. More information about this on their website.

After coming up on a truck that was just starting to catch fire, I wished that I had a fire extinguisher to hand to him. So my last two cars I’ve put one in. If I came up on a situation lien that again, I’d hand it over to them.

I have to agree with the above that if my car caught fire, I’d run and let it burn. However, it’s a cheap option that gives you a choice if confronted with a situation.

can anyone pm me the last 8 of their vin? My parts dept is having trouble looking for the necessary parts to order this for me. Much appreciated!

I have carried an extinguisher after seeing a news story about car on fire with driver trapped. A civilian stopped and put fire out with an extinguisher he had in his car so the driver could be extracted. I agree I would let my car burn, but maybe having it could save a life. In my Lexus, it was secured in trunk. In 2S it is in frunk. Haven’t quite narrowed down where to keep it.

The most realistic situation where you'd use the fire extinguisher is on track when you've overcooked your brakes. A quick spray to help put any flames out.
That's really about it. In that case, it's helpful.

It does look cool though.

Mostly so that I can be a good Samaritan. I have come upon a few vehicle fires alongside the road in my lifetime. It is nice to be able to hand them a fire extinguisher. The attached photographs show what I installed in my car. If I actually wanted an effective track system; I'd install a 10 lb. Halon or similar inert gas system with feeds to my foot box, the engine and the fuel tank area.

I've been in situations with other cars where there has been a small electrical or fuel based fire that was quickly put out with a fire extinguisher. The end result was either cleaning the mess or replacing a few parts. Just walking away to let the car burn while thinking "let the insurance take care of it" is irresponsible.

Agreed with the above post.
My local club track I belong to says a majority of fires are due to an off-track incident, where the exhaust/brakes catch the very dry grass on fire under the car.
Since insurance doesn’t cover track events, I’d like the option to put a fire out in the rare case one was started.

Anyone else have options they’ve used, maybe links to what worked for you?

I found this one, would love any options or feedback on what you’ve used.

My GT3 came with one and it's probably not something I would have ordered (bought it used) but I don't mind. But generally, I'm not too worried about any of my Porsches actually catching on fire.

With my Ferrari on the other hand, it's a pretty real consideration so I added an element extinguisher which is small and slim enough to fit wedged between the passenger seat and the console out of sight.

The rationale is the same as why I have 8 extinguishers on our property in handy locations (it's pretty large and we have a bunch of buildings).

No. But I've seen these in a few other cars and they seem more appropriate for a 992: https://shop.icon4x4.com/products/ic...e-extinguisher

I too had a small electrical fire spark under the dash of my previous 993 track car. Put out immediately. Zero damage. I spent a lot of time and money building that thing to cross my arms and let it burn. I agree with the irresponsible comment, regarding insurance.

With respect I would disagree. Anything other than an electrical fire that results in perhaps a small melted portion of your car wiring harness, a car fire will likely result in significant damage. The question is, would you want the vehicle back after it’s repaired or would you just prefer that it be totaled? I think it’s highly fact dependent, but I can say that for myself, I would almost prefer that the car is totaled by my insurer and I just replace it with a new one. Look these cars are complex and honestly I’m not sure I would want it back afterwards, because all kinds of gremlins can show up. I don’t think it’s irresponsible to distance yourself from the car and let it burn if necessary. Think of it this way - the total population of Porsche owners who have a fire extinguisher is probably far less than one percent. Does that mean that all of them are irresponsible if they do the prudent thing and stand back until the local fire department shows up?

I live in Atlanta, GA and I have never been anywhere where I see more vehicles burning on the side of the road than here. At least once a month I see a vehicle on fire or already burned out.
