It's on a 3 year finance deal (balloon payment at month 36) and was never sure if I would keep it that long, but would only change maybe for a GTS if released in that period.

Interestingly, now that I haven't done many miles, I am FAR more sensitive to mileage, and have found myself looking at approved used ("CPO"??) cars and pricing mine based on low mileage cars.

My friend got his C4S cab in March and has done 300 miles since! He's looking to change to a Portofino already.

Maybe its Covid and the possibility of redundancy and needing to get out of the car, but certainly I am more worried now about mileage than I ever have been with another car 😫

Help me?!

i ... don’t get it. What’s the problem ? Drive it hard or don’t. If it’s not making you happy, then trade it in or get rid of it. If it’s with Porsche you may be able to negotiate an early return. Otherwise you have choices like https://www.swapalease.com

holding out 2 more years is probably a much larger depreciation than the 3600mi

Thanks @AlexCeres - maybe I've not worded it well.

I'm v happy with the car and dont want to get out of it, I'm just saying that now I'm well under my mileage 'allowance' I'm now more sensitive to adding lots of miles.

Obviously the guaranteed future value (which is what the balloon payment is) is based on my car being 3 years old with 30k miles at the end of term, so now there is a realistic chance of keeping the mileage low over the term, the more I can do that, the more likely I am to have a better residual value, and hence equity in the car.

The financing is possibly different in the US than here in the UK?

Anyway, it was more a tongue in cheek remark asking for permission to rinse the car and not worry about residuals!

lol. Joke throughly missed.

Balloon payment leases exist here too but are very unusual. Separately Porsche North America lease terms are generally awful.

My new 992 will be a daily driver through 4 seasons (including New England winters) - although I am keeping my Cayman as a fun summer drive since it is the last of the 6 cylinders and I don't really want to part with it. On my 991.2 (now re-homed with the 992 on it's way to me via the Swift Ace ;-)) I normally put on about 10- 12k a year in miles-- including a couple of track days, which I will most likely do in the new car too. I'm not concerned about mileage since I look at it as I want to be the person who enjoys my car to the fullest---not the next owner. You may lose a little bit of money with your mileage higher, but to me that's better than losing enjoyment from not driving your car because you are worried you will lose money.

My 911s have been my Daily Drivers, keep them 2-3 years and sell them for a new model. Seems to be the sweet spot to sell them in that period (I put about 8-10K miles per year). When I sell they have 1-2 years of Warranty left, makes it attractive to the next buyer. I have my other fun cars for weekend duty and track days.

I fall into the camp of the non-winter/good weather daily driver. Ideally I would like to hold to 6,000 to 8,000 miles per year as I probably won’t be able to get another one until my three kid’s are out of college or close to it (11 years away for the twins).

Definitely daily driver. While I really enjoy owning 911s I'm not precious about them, they get used just as I would a Chevy (or Holden in my case....).

Really appreciate everyone not driving their 911s too much. I certainly enjoy picking up a very low mile samples, with new warranty still on the clock, plus full 2-yr CPO, all whilst you realized the majority of the depreciation.

Much thanks. My wife thanks you too.

Cheers.

1. Weekend warrior - but spec’d in a way that it could certainly be daily driven. Family / business duties dictate I daily drive an SUV.

2. Depends on how many drives I take. My current 991.2 I take on day long road trips through the mountain passes - and I try to do that once a month. So roundabout 7500kms annually.

3. My previous used 911s I’ve always found the lowest mileage example I could (without getting into collector territory). Primarily as I bought on the basis on ease of selling, and so I was conscious of mileage. Next 911 will be my 20 year car, and given Porsche NZ will extend the warranty out to 10 years, a part of me wants to put as much mileage on it as possible.

The thought of having a car that I ordered and specified from new; in 20 years time with 250,000kms, associated wear and tear, and most importantly the memories of the enjoyment it’s provided, is exponentially more valuable to me than the same scenario but with 20 years of pain from stopping myself from driving/enjoying it that would result from prioritising a higher residual.

This is so true. The costs per mile of a garage queen are WAY higher than for a daily driver, especially if you have another car you're using (calculate cost of the car, maintenance, insurance, and depreciation) because you don't want to put mileage on a 911. Sure a low mileage 911 will fetch a few more dollars used, but nowhere near enough to make up the cost of the OTHER car you were driving while the 911 sat collecting dust.

Our car is 8 days old today...has just shy of 2000 km. on the clock and took it's first pea-sized rock chip in the windshield yesterday. Plan to drive it 450 km today into the mountains to go look at a waterfall for 10 minutes. Beautiful summer day...the love of my life by my side...a 911 snaking through the Canadian Rockies with Sport exhaust ricocheting off the cliff faces. Nope, not worried about mileage; too busy living and enjoying one of the best DRIVING tools on the planet.

My 991 was 2nd car and not my daily but still put about 6k a year on my Carrera S over 12 mos. Drove it for 2 weeks then swapped back to my main vehicle or when weather was bad/winter would switch to my SUV. For example with my 2014 981 Cayman S daily driver duties were shared with my '15 BMW M3. Yin and Yang I call it...I usually swap between the two vehicles whatever they are as I've had two cars to do that with for quite a while now. Lucky enough to plan and budget for that so its been an eclectic mix of M3-Carrera mixes, X5-Carrera mixes, Cayenne-Boxter mixes, Cayman-M3 mixes, Range Rover Sport-Carrera S mixes, and up until recently an Audi RS5-Carrera S mix. So I do like the yin and yang of being able to swap out/switch up. Currently am Carrera less for the 1st time in years waiting my 992 order so we'll see but likely will be the same when it arrives. It should be driven!

Well due the weather I can use 911 only 6 months per year. My previous 997.1 C2S was WW, because there was a lack of comfort in it to be a DD.
When I bought 992 C4S I had the same thoughts, but after few miles my mind changed. 992 is very convenient car, almost like 971 panamera. So now for my wife 992 becomes her favourite DD, how with childseat in rear. For me it could be DD too, but in our family we have only one 992 so I used as WW most

I plan to drive mine as much as possible. My only worry is not driving it enough before I upgrade in 3yrs...this is a toy and meant to be played with...
