Are there any people here with long term experience with Guards Red. Is it a base coat clear coat paint? If well maintained, cleaned, waxed frequently does the paint retain its luster and not fade. I know reds can be prone to fading. Guards Red is my first color choice at this point but I have concerns about the longevity. I usually wax my cars three to four times a year. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.
Great choice. Guards red is a beautiful color. I had a 997 for 4 years in the Florida sun. No issues. Waxed only twice a year, but with new coating technologies, it wont be an issue.
When paint corrected, Guards Red is one of those colors that is truly a metamorphosis. I prefer Carmine Red over GR.
GR stopped being a single stage paint with the 993. The 996 series is a 2-stage paint, containing a clear coat. If ever in doubt, just check your polishing pad when doing paint correction, there will be zero color transfer with a clear coated car.
Regardless of color selection, the LESS you touch the paint the BETTER. That's why something as simple (but $$$) as a MasterBlaster makes such a HUGE difference.
The other significant contributing factor to keeping a car's finish in great condition is excellent washing technique and using good quality products and tools.
There is absolutely NO issues with Guards Red if you take care of it. I bought my 2004 996 TT from original owner in Sep 2005 and sold it in 2017. It was one my all time favorites. Here are some quick photos:
Not long after I bought it and taking it on the Tail of the Dragon. I loved the interior. Not too long before I sold it 13 years later.
I sold my Guards '86 Cab almost 30 years ago. The guy who bought it still owns it and brings it to local car shows and Porsche Club events. It still looks great.
