Default Lemons to Lemonade Story

Went out for a drive several weeks ago, coastal San Diego area. While looping back to the house driving through Rancho Santa Fe I hit a deer. I have lived here for 30 years and during that time I think I have seen 3 deer, maybe. Anyway I was going about 40 mph when the thing, a full grown male came onto the road from the passenger side at a full run about 10 feet in front of me. I hit the brakes and he almost made it ...almost. I caught his left hip on my drivers side front corner, spun him around which literally beat the sh*t out of him. I know this because his sh*t was down the whole side of car. Fortunately it was more of a deflection then full on hit so the damage was largely cosmetic, although the light bucket and fender took one for the team. Car was perfectly drivable so went home and called insurance etc. They were great, not even a question where it was going to be fixed (Amatos - No better in San Diego). Even though there was no damage to the front left wheel insurance authorized a new wheel out of caution. Work was done perfectly the first time, took 6 weeks including reapplication of PPF.

So the lemonade part is that I now had a fifth wheel. Figured I could leave it in the garage to collect dust or?
So I decided to make a coffee table out of it

The way that story started, I thought maybe you were going to eat the deer lol

Good idea on the coffee table. Always have wanted to do the same for the mancave.

You should wire the headlight under the rim for some nighttime ambiance

Nice coffee table. I wish my deer story ended that well. I hit one last year in my 991, also on the left front, and ended up with over $17,000 worth of damage. My car was in the shop for almost 3 months, and when I got it back it just wasn't the same. I traded it for my Macan, which I will then trade for my Targa next March. Long story about why I decided to do 911/Macan/911.

I had the pleasure of hitting a deer once while on a road trip across the USA. I was looking for somewhere to eat in a little college town called Lawrence, Kansas, which is also the location of the Hallmark greeting card factory. I was right in the middle of town when a deer literally launched itself right at my car. It hit on the drivers side right around the tire area and its *** hit and broke the drivers door window and slammed against my face. It also sprayed urine down the side of my car and then it bounded off into the woods on the other side of the road to die. I called the police, but they couldn't find it.

I can tell you that with some duct tape and the clear liner from a cheap shower curtain set, you can fashion a fairly usable temporary door window.

I didn't even know there were deer in Kansas. Turns out they're all over the place there.

Grew up there, and yes, deer are abundant. If you are from Kansas and haven't hit a deer, then you've never driven in the state. Totaled no less than 3 cars while growing up in the backwoods. People pay good money to come to the state and hunt deer during the season (they are over populated).

OP, good to hear everything turned out on your end and I'm loving the coffee table! If I hit a deer up here in LA, I know who to call to make me one.

This is why I'm getting Night Vision Assist. Cheap insurance!

I'm definitely glad to hear the story ended well for you! And I really like your new Porsche table ... looks good and expensive (now don't be giving Porsche any more revenue raising ideas). ;-)

I see deer constantly where I live as a) it's a rural area and b) they always use either my yard or the neighbors as their route between their bedding areas. Plus I live near the Smoky Mountains so more than a few running around in there. Guess I'll have to stay extra diligent when I finally get it at the end of July.

No deer up here in Anchorage, but there are plenty of these larger ungulates:

I've been told you should aim for the legs. If you hit them in the middle area, they'll go right through the windshield. Sometimes alive and kicking.

That's a nice looking $2,000+ coffee table (retail prices on Porsche wheels are crazy).

Love the coffee table!

I have been driving through the Ranch to/from work for two decades and have not yet seen a deer but will be more cautious.

And that race car video--that almost doesn't seem right that it would fly up that high without doing any damage to the car :-)
