Default Targa Predicament 4 v 4s

Hi all

I feel privileged to have Joined this wonderful forum so thank you for letting me be a part of it!

I bought my first ever Porsche last April which is a Black 992 C2S Coupe. I love the car and it is truly spectacular. The Targa was always a car that I looked at on the road and thought WOW, now that Porsche has launched it formally I am very temped to trade in my C2S and move over to a Targa model - now for the predicament! I love my power and speed however when I bought my car I could only chose between a 4s and 2s and went for the later a) because i heard it was an awesome drive and b) the lightstrip feature i loved in the 991 was available on both options. There is an argument to say at the base C2 been around at the start perhaps I would have been very pleased with that? Who knows? Most of my driving is in town driving and I do not drive it on freeways or on long journeys often. Therefore....if I trade in for a Targa what are the pros and cons of both models. Obviously financially there is a huge difference and my concern (coming from a C2S coupe) Will a targa 4 feel sluggish and not sound as good as the Targa 4s? I think if available I would have liked the option fo a Targa 2S but sadly that’s not a consideration.

Advice is really massively appreciated before I speak to my dealership about placing an order.

Stay safe all

Targa is heavier than Carrera. S has more power. Seems like an easy decision to me, finances notwithstanding.

Agree with rk-d. 4S most definitely if you have a 992 S now + added weight. Also, if I recall from 991 forum, there are several who mentioned how hard it was getting an allocation for a 4 compared to 4S. I am not sure how much that holds true for 992.

The 992 Targa 4S weighs 200lbs more than the Carrera 4S and nearly 300lbs more than your current C2S.
If you just care about the style, sure.
For me, I couldn't take the weight and performance penalty of the Targa 4 -- plus, much of that 200lbs over a 4S is carried high.

Targa 4S

Otherwise, stay with the C2S

I love when non track people complain about weight on a car. Truth is if you are not tracking the car you likely wont notice the added weight of the targa. Dont let the weight scare you away. If you track heavily get a real track car (RS).

You don't have to track the car to notice that extra weight on your back.
Just the first touches on the gas pedal out of the dealer's car park and you notice that slight sluggishness,
go on the slowest corners and you notice that rear end mildly lagging behind.

If you like performance of your 992 C2S you shouldn't downgrade to base engine. And remember about brakes, on S model brakes more efficient

I think it would be more of a placebo effect knowing one weighed more than the other....

Actually, the RS isn't really a "real track car."

It's more like a road car that is suited for track driving.

A real track car would be something like the RSR, or the GT4 Clubsport, or maybe the GT3 R

For reference, I test drove a 991.2 GTS (not 4) before I purchased my Targa 991.2 GTS. To be honest I did not push the car to the limit when test driven. At the GTS power levels (which is the S level on the 992) I did not feel the car was really impacted by the extra weight. The targa does feel a bit softer, if that makes any sense. That could be because the GTS has SPASM but overall its not a huge difference. What you will notice is the targa will have more creaks, especially on crappy roads, as the chassis is flexing more (you have no roof).

So if I were you I would not dismiss the Targa as it is EPIC and I am sure they made it even better. But I would not get a base model, get the 4S or wait for the GTS.

Why won't they do a RWD version? You can get cabrio in RWD. I may just wind up w a cab instead. :-/
