As for the "$45 vs $120" one, has anyone had luck with the cheaper one holding up over time? Thoughts on the quality?

Glad you didn't scratch the car! The post breaking is typical of some of the cheaper badges from the posts that I have read for other models. The self-threading nut jams when removing it and the force needed to remove it overcomes the weld

The pins are the weak spot on any of the crests.

I am sure the badge is authentic. It looks like they redid the posts (most of them do) and if it is not done well, it tears off. If you compare it with your gold one, you will see what I am talking about.

wow that looks good. I couldn't do it, my OCD would remind me the ones on the wheels, the steering wheel don't match anymore 🤣

you're right and i did notice when i first had them side by side initially the OEM looked threaded and the new one didn't.. but i assumed it was because the OEM already had the nut on it

that was part of the reason i removed it.. the wheel crests just didn't match.. the steering wheel i could ignore because it was interior but on the outside it didn't look good and a friend kept hounding me daily about going back to OEM
