This has been "solved" in a few threads by the dealers simply blaming the aftermarket PPF installation on the mirrors! The fact that my PPF was installed after I picked it up new when I first noticed the whistle didn't matter to them since they insisted they "taped the edges and it went away".
Since it's intermittant, varies with speed and prevailing winds, and is drowned out with the sunroof open or radio on, I've moved on to worrying about other things in my life!
I get some wind noise at 40mph coming from the center but at 70mph the whistling comes from driver side window and driving me nuts. I've taped up every surface from the mirrors(folding), windshield, drivers window seals, to systematically track it but with no success. Doubt the dealer will be able to find it either.
But the main point it seems like the whistling comes from the same place on other 992. Hopefully someone will see a pattern and pin point the problem.
Btw..my whistling was there before it got PPFd...
in the mean time I got raise the volume of the music.......
Happy to stumble upon this. First “issue” I noticed 5 mins into driving the car.
I played with it on the way home. IT IS NOT the window seal, as it does it with the window down. My mirror is PPF’d I seen someone mention that possibly being the problem, but hard to believe.
I also have noted wind noise between 30 - 50 mph from the passenger side. Dealer also confirmed noise and their proposed solution is to replace window gasket. Based on earlier posts, it seems that this might not be an appropriate remedy. Dealer was not aware that this is a common issue. Has anyone else had their window gasket replaced and the wind noise was resolved?
I am certainly open to installing a wind diffuser but it seems to me that this is an issue that Porsche should resolve. Any additional advice and input would be much appreciated!
I installed the Awe foilers and the whistling is still coming at around 70mph. I taped up the whole seal of the window(climbed in from the passenger side) and removed sections at a time to figure out the cause. That didn't make a difference. I have folding mirrors and I have a feeling it's coming from that when I open the window.
Some Mercedes have a known issue with side mirrors whistling. The standard fix is to open them up and put some self-adhesive felt strips between parts of the external case, can’t say exactly which part sorry but maybe worth looking at.
