Just got my C2S a few days ago. Black Metallic. I have not arranged for PPF yet, nor the tint that I know that I want. Lots of places are closed in the Bay Area but most importantly, I don't want to let the car go for three or four days. I also don't really want to drop another $3-4k right now. I know that seems small in light of overall cost but still...
Did you do PPF immediately? How many didn't or aren't doing it at all. I like my cars clean but I'm not one of those who keeps it clean all the time. Honestly, I don't mind the look of a black car that's a little dirty. I understand that is different from protecting the paint.
Do you think it's really necessary to do right away or cool to wait a little bit?
I'm in the rare category of not minding the occasional rock chip, so I skipped PPF and just did a ceramic to keep things clean. But if you're going to spend the $$ to do it, do it now. Waiting just means you'll be filming over imperfections. And even though I'm in the category of not obsessing over chips, I generally do have some regrets come time to sell/trade in that I don't have perfect paint. I'd say do it now if you're going to do it at all.
I took delivery last week and had mine done as soon as I could get in. I wouldn't wait as it provides protection to the paint which is best when the car us new.
I had it done at the dealer (since I decided to do a full wrap which required some disassembly). The dealer actually gave me a pretty good rate. But I would compare and check in your area before you decide.
Now that I have it installed, I think it's worth it. There are so many rocks and sand that hit the car (especially with the wide body).
I think it depends on how much you are driving and where you are driving. I got my car in Feb and it went for PPF 5 days after delivery, I didn’t drive it much until PPF was done. I would do it quickly, but it can probably wait a couple weeks if you are staying off the highway. If highway driving, it needs to be done fast. Sadly, with the virus situation, I have been mostly stuck at home working remotely, so I haven’t been driving much other than getting out of the house for a drive to forget about the current state of the world.

IMO the jet black metallic is a nice color. That said, I'd have it detailed and then PPF'ed immediately. You'll thank yourself later. Paint protection on a black car where the swirl marks are removed is heaven.
Still, PPF is not always a guarantee of full protection from rocks. Some are big enough and come with high enough velocity they'll punch right thru that material.
If you plan to do it, I would bite the bullet and do asap. I took delivery on Sat, drove it maybe 10-15 miles, then had it flat bedded to the shop the next day. First car I’ve owned where I did ppf & ceramic. It’s not inexpensive, but gave me a little peace of mind with the added protection.
I'm probably the exception here (unless a lot of owners don't PPF their cars and just don't post about it), but I passed on PPF and just did a good ceramic coating as soon as I took delivery. I don't keep cars more than 2 - 3 years or put a lot of highway miles on them (or total miles for that matter) so I figured I'd just be doing it for the next owner. An occasional rock chip doesn't bother me and I can usually fix them just fine with touch up paint (especially using the Dr. Colorchip method). I do like a clean and shiny car, so I feel that the ceramic coating (and any follow up to maintain it) is worth it.
You’re already too late for a “perfect” PPF solution. Especially in the Bay Area. It’s a waste of money at this point, IMO.
Ceramic coating does not protect your car, but it will help with maintenance. Truthfully, there are enough options on the market now that you can just do it yourself and save atleast $1k - if you have a garage and a few hours it’s actually pretty rewarding. Kamikaze and Cquartz offer some amazing options.
Thanks for the quick responses. I've put 300 miles on the car in three days. It's been awesome! Couldn't not drive it. It makes sense to get it done quickly if at all. Thanks!
Hey man, I was in the exact same situation as you. My first "nice" car was my BMW M4, and I didn't think to ever get PPF as it was a leased car. I put 30k miles on it in two years before I traded in for my 992, and there were a few rock chips that really bothered me. Especially one on my mirror. I had Black Sapphire Metallic paint also, was a nightmare to keep clean.
I figured since this is my "forever" car, my 992, I would get it PPF'ed. Initially I thought, screw it, it's just a car and told myself to not obsess over it. I drove it for about 400 miles when I got the car and every time I would hear rocks kicking up or hear the sound of a rock I would cringe and I wasn't able to enjoy the car as I thought I would be able to. I got the PPF done and have been driving the car for about 600 miles now and I feel so much happier and confident! I don't worry about the car at all anymore.
I guess it's all about your mentality. If you've already considered getting the PPF, then do it. It's already been on your mind and you'll be kicking yourself if you don't. Just get the front bumper, hood, fender, rocker panels and the edge of the rear bumper where rocks get kicked up and you'll feel a lot better about driving your car. I ordered my 992 in chalk and with the ceramic coating it looks so beautiful, even after 600 miles that I've driven it (no carwash yet because of the pandemic) Sometimes i go down to the garage with some warm water and wipe the bugs off the front bumper and I also wash the front windshield. But that's it!
I am also in the camp of do it ASAP. The comment above about the tires picking up rocks is so true. Not to mention in the MW, the ‘sedan of choice’ is an F-150 coupled with 18-wheelers that make front ends and windshields rock targets.
Immediately if not sooner. This is my 4th black 911. You won’t regret it. Road rash happens quickly. Follow behind one too many dump trucks or 18 wheelers and you will regret waiting
