992 soundcheck in detail - Base / Bose / Burmester (one is a big leap)

Thanks! I just went and checked both stereos and agree with you. The Burmester had better mids and highs but I thought the Bose had a better bass. Since the music I listen to is on the heavier side, I stuck with Bose.

I wonder what sources people are using on Burmester.
Unless you are listening to lossless streaming (ie Tidal Masters) or lossless playback through digital media, then a high end stereo is virtually pointless, IMO. Ironically, true high end sounds worse when fed garbage sources.
If anyone mostly listens to Sirius XM or even Pandora, then I'd get the Bose. No need to drink Mad Dog 20/20 out of a crystal glass.

I use TIDAL and I will do so with my 992 Burmester - love music and look forward to it.

I also did an 992 AB Bose vs Burmeister audition, and went with Bose due to small marginal difference in audio quality. After 8 months with the Bose, I'm not impressed. I've tried tweaking all the settings, playing with different sources.
If you are really into high fidelity audio, go for the Burmeister. (Assumes you can absorb the price difference!)

Just found this thread again.
Specking a high end sound system in a 911?
What is the point?
It is like listening to a radio thunderstorm!
You can spend as much as you want on amps. You are still listening to it with all that racket going on in the back ground.
I would concede the door speakers are worth upgrading. Just to stop them resonating to bass.
Probably the only worthwhile upgrade that is any value for money.
Get those door cards off!

Interesting post. I am into home Hifi and use a separate DAC with hi res files. I am getting a new 2S in a few weeks with Bose a so I have been reading the manual and it states that there is a maximum bit rate support of 328 - see below.
That being the case, is it worth having Hi Res files in the car or Burmester as I assume this would be down sampling them.
While writing has anyone managed to use an SD Card larger than 128GB successfully in a 992? - it says 128GB max.

I've got the Bose system coming on my 992 in December. Hoping it doesn't have the same issue.....

I've been fighting the battle on a Bose speaker for months on my Panamera. Does yours sound like this?

My June 2019 build never experienced the Bose rattle and it also passed the tone test.

Does anyone know if an aftermarket system upgrade is really an option, in light of the integration of the stock system (whichever you chose) into the car’s information and communication systems? My lock date is in early February, and I am in a real quandary on this. Even if it can be done, is it known what functionality would be lost (like SVC, as one possible example) by doing so?

I think many people would agree that Bose should be the base stereo at the price point Porsches are sold. But I also get that if stereo is no big deal to you (just need it for navigation or phone calls), you don’t want the extra weight from the beefed up speakers and amps or maybe you’re a true audiophile and will rip everything out anyway.....the base system is a good thing to get and then spend that money on a performance option or other feature.
