Default Forced break-in?/Faster after 250 miles.

Is there some kind of software restrictor on the car when it’s brand new? I just passed 250 miles on the odometer and my car feels totally different now. It suddenly got quicker, the exhaust is louder and the transmission is holding gears longer in Sport Mode. I also refueled the car for the first time right at about 250 miles, so maybe the first tank or gas was bad or something.

The ECU in my Alfa 4C didn’t allow full boost until I passed 3500 miles. Other manufacturers have also incorporated break-in related ECU restrictions.

Perhaps, Porsche is doing something similar.

I can’t believe I’m the first person to mention this. And it was a night and day difference that I noticed right at about 250 miles on the odometer. Wanna bet we find out later that this is a US-only “feature” that they put on the car so that first time Porsche owners here don’t wrap their cars around a light pole on day one of ownership.

Did you wind up adding that octane booster from the other thread? Any chance that was added before or after this mark that could be contributing to perceived power difference?

No octane booster added. I filled the car up with 90 octane Supreme from Chevron today. And I have no plans to put any octane booster in this car as long as it keeps driving like it is now. My other Porsche is a 991.1 Turbo cabriolet (non S) and my new 992 C4S suddenly went from feeling just a bit slower than that car to feeling like it basically matches it in performance. And the exhaust also suddenly sounds louder and better.

Maybe they filled it with 87 octane to save a couple bucks.

Quite sure there is software restriction in place during break in.

Not to get into the whole break in rabbit hole - but I usually keep it pretty conservative during the first 500 miles before I start opening it up, so I think it's reasonable for Porsche to do this.

I know this is out of left field, but there was definitely a software restriction on my aston until 500 miles. I drove the car full bore from day 1 and could feel the intermittent power cut its quite noticeable. Lo and behold at 501 miles full boost every time.. im at 2k miles of full power.
I would believe it if someone says 992 now has this in place. I drove my 991.2 more gingerly for the first 5-600 miles so I cant tell if Porsche did this on earlier cars.

Virtually every automatic car produced has a "learning transmission". It's more this phenomenon than what you might be suggesting.
