Help—scuff on rear bumper (long story)—what’s the best way to try to fix it myself? I don’t want to rub the heck out of it and end up damaging the paint/clear coat.

FWIW, it has been ceramic coated.

If it truly is just a scuff, then it should "buff out" as they say; a job that is real easy if you have the right equipment on hand which many enthusiasts do. If you're talking about a small scuff you can do it by hand with nothing more than a rag and some compound, perhaps in two grit levels like medium followed by a swirl remover. I just took out a parking lot scuff by hand on my Panamera even though I have all the gear and an entire shelf of compounds, polishes, etc. The mark was so small it wasn't worth plugging in my buffer and then cleaning the pad at the end of the job.

Different companies label their products differently, but you can figure it out. Be careful if you buy a can of 'compound" from the local auto parts store because it might be too aggressive. Anyhow, the idea is to rub scuff with the medium stuff and then removed any scratches caused by the compound using the finer finishing stuff and then re-apply the ceramic coating in the area you've buffed out. You did do the ceramic coating yourself, didn't you? If not, take it back to the guy who did it and tell him you want a tiny touch up for free.

If all this makes sense to you, go for it. If you don't understand what I'm typing then take it to a professional. This is not rocket surgery. A shop is likely to assign this job to a mouth-breather because it's almost impossible to screw up. However, some people can screw up anything and if you think you are one of those folks, then don't try this at home.

Hint: YouTube is loaded with videos on this exact subject.

In no particular order but these have made cleaning so much easier. Spray, wipe, and off we go.
  1. Adams Detail Spray
  2. Gyeon bug/tar remover & Goo Gone
  3. Sonax Wheel Cleaner
  4. P&S Xpress Interior Cleaner
  5. Kranzle K1322

I am a big Carpro fan. On my MY2022 I have ceramic coating.

Body: One coat of Cquartz UK
One coat of SIC SiO2
Wheels: One coat of Dlux
One coat of Giss
Plastic: All plastic and rubber: Carpro Dlux

Normal maintenance wash:
  • Carpro Reset Shampoo (two bucket method) with boars hair brush
  • Foam cannon
  • P&S Brakebuster for wheels
  • Carpro Pearl for tires (no sling)
  • Big Boi dryer (fantastic)
I'm still looking for an exceptional glass cleaner. Most seem just average.

I want to get a BigBoi dryer next. Any suggestions on the Mini vs Mini+? Both for drying ability and noise.

My car has full PPF with ceramic coating and I use a Pressure Washer with MTM PF22 for washing. Something to quickly dry the majority of the water and the crevices and then I can quickly dry the rest with 1 microfiber drying towel.
