Finally had a nice day and just cracked 500 miles on my chalk 992 C2S cabrio.
I didn’t really try to do a “break in” but weather has been bad so it just kinda happened.
So I hit some rural, twisty East TN roads. Drove in sport mode mostly with a little bit of time in Sport plus. Speed limits were anywhere from 55 to 25. Let me say those speeds were “considered a starting point.”
I will compare it to what I know:
My current 2018 R8 V10 RWS (a car in love)
my previous 2015 Ferrari Cali T (nice engine)
previous 2008 Boxster S
previous 2019 M850 and current 2013 Jag XFR (nuts power)
My general impression is that this car is a blast.
A wildcat when you push her but calm and domesticated at low speeds.
engine noise is a nice grunt and old school until the Turbos really wind up and then the “modern”kicks in. Less Formula One than the R8 and not as deep and roaring as the V8 Fcar.
It can get violent above 6000 rpm, and you have to drive always above 4000 to really have fun. The R8 is smooth and steady from 1200 on.
The handling is more raw than the R8 and I love that about the 992. The ride in general is much more harsh- once again love it. A great ying to the R8 yang.
PDK paddle shifting is fast in Sport and smooth. Even faster but more harsh with a “bang” in sport plus.
i was able to get the back end out a few times on dry roads but it corrected me quickly. That’s hard to do on the R8 wo esc turned down or off. Never got a sustained true drift, which is fine by me. Did get a tad sideway on a sharp turn in 3rd gear.
As a whole it is a joy to drive and much different than any Of the other cars. Not scary but pulse was up quickly. Funny, the Jag does the same to my heart but because it’s 550 hp (tuned) and it is a sofa on wheels- that gets goofy at times.
The brakes are wonderful and served me well when I had to brake for a goat (yes a goat) and a school bus that was stopped around a blind corner.
The handling is very responsive and point and go. Some over steer but most of that is me getting used to it. I feel the road better than any car I have owned.
I do wish I could have a stick for the pdk at times but the paddles are quick and much bigger and easier to use than the R8 or the BMW but smaller than the Ferrari.
This car has a soul (like the Fcar) which is new in a German car in my experience.
More after I take it on a long drive and in the Smokies.

Posts like this are just amazing while I wait for my 992.2s, thank you!
curious, you mentioned a harsh ride, surprised me a bit because I heard cabs are set up a little more compliant...

In normal mode ride is comfortable but not Sedan or R8 comfortable. In sport and plus it’s more stiff all around so you feel like you are on a carbon fiber race bike.
So I guess harsh was a “bit harsh”.

I miss the 850 after a long day at work, so smooth and comfortable. My Jag does that duty now.
im sure your M8 comp is even faster and maybe more raw. I have learned I like rear wheel drive cars more than awd, but the X drive system is amazing. Would liked to keep them all but I can’t work everyday!!
I’ll probably get an M8 someday once I can’t do smaller sports cars anymore.

Its not really harsh- just more raw and you can feel the road really well. I have a finicky back and after 2 hours- no pain.

Ahh ok, made me a little nervous as I have a SPASM coupe on order... in any case really fantastic that you're loving it coming from an R8 and a bunch of other really interesting cars, thanks for sharing... so many threads on how to buy a 992, love the ones about how you enjoy it so much more.

The 992 Carrera S is plenty enough power for normal roads. Especially with the top down.

The 992 c2s is more comfortable than the 991.2 GTS I drove. that car was jolting at times but man it seemed like it had 550 hp, and I felt like I had to wrangle it like a wild animal. But what a blast! I also drove a 2019 turbo that was fast but felt bigger and heavier than the 992 or GTS. Just my feelings with a 20 min test drive of each.

I had a 2017 California T. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned. That engine was awesome. More straight line power than even a 911t. But our 992 4S is a visceral experience. I feel much more connected and confident. The Cali was a unpredictable cornering. You could lose the back end easily. Less power in the 4S but holy cow does it handle like a beast.
