Default Uniden

Has anyone installed the Uniden R7 in their 992? Do you have photos to post?
While I am sure the R7 is a bit more sophisticated than the R3, it looks huge sitting next to
the R3...

Photos of the unit mounted to the mirror would confirm that... thanks

Don't have an R7 but just hardwired my R3 and agree that the R7 is much larger. I decided against a blend mount with the R3 as I thought it might be too large, so R7 would certainly be much larger. The R3 does tuck up nicely to the left of the rearview mirror up high!

So you are using the suction cups on glass?

The Uniden R7 is fantastic, excellent range, and the direction arrows are totally worth the money. On a 5 state road trip, it provided an invaluable heads up on what was on the road ahead. The combination of the R7 detector and Waze will keep you out of trouble -- it certainly kept us out of trouble.

This picture shows where I have mine mounted with the suction cup basically behind the mirror. Note: The OLED screen is super bright, but it is difficult to photograph.

I haven't permanently mounted mine, because I don't have much need for it at home here in Pennsylvania. In PA, only state troopers are allowed to use radar. Local law enforcement is forced to use other timing methods like rubber strips and timing devices.

Thanks for the pics!

But do you think that mounting it to the mirror would be a "visual" problem?

As long as the blend mount tucks it under there like my mount location, it shouldn't be an issue. It's really not that large.

The blend mounts that I have seen for our cars are attached to the mirror and do go underneath it. I really want an R7 for the arrows, but am currently happy with the R3 tucked up high with a suction cup. I'll take a pic tonight.

Unless your state has a law preventing you from attaching things to the window, I think that the single suction cup mount is entirely sufficient, plus, it gives you some flexibility in placement. Given that mine is so high up and the suction cup is black, I doubt that I would get cited for the location.

I plan on mounting the R7 above and just to the left of the mirror. Will use a Mirror Tap for power and this 3M sticky mount to mount the detector (link below). I have used this set up in a previous car and was happy with it. And yes the size of the R7 is massive.

Is there a mirror tap for the 992? I didn't know if anyone had found a way to do that yet...

My installer preferred to go down to fuse box and it really did not matter much to me as long as it was on a switched outlet and reliable! Pic of mine:

Love the Blendmount. Gets the detector off the windshield or dash and up at the right height for proper function and out of your sight line.
