I just used wire cutters to take a little notch out of the rings and gently loosened the battery cable and slipped them on. This has been done since around a week after I got the car 2.5 months ago.
Indeed that will work, but I didn't want to touch the factory nuts at all, even to loosen them, and there is enough thread visible to catch a second thinner nut there.
I will get some photos tomorrow, my extension cable is arriving then and I will be putting everything together once I have that. But its simple really - get two thin M6x1.0 nuts and you will be able to sandwich the lug terminals at the battery without disturbing the factory nuts. That nut takes a 10mm socket. On the cable length issue, that Battery Tender cable isn't proprietary actually, you could buy a longer one with the same connections (Schumacher makes them for example) and avoid the extension cable, but since I already have the included one wired up, I am just going to lengthen it with their extension part.
Thanks, appreciate it. The included ring terminal cable is pretty short (18" I believe), is it long enough to connect to the battery and then pop the other end out of the cover to quickly connect/disconnect without opening the hood? Thinking I may need an extension or a longer ring terminal cable as well...
It's two feet pulled taut, and that's 3-4 inches too short of being to egress the cover - so I had to order the extension cable. 6 feet is the shortest they make.
Its whatever eyelet comes with the Battery Tender product, I guess its an M6 eyelet since the post takes an M6x1.0 nut. If you get a thinner nut, there is enough thread to tighten.
I bought m6 eyelets as the m8 eyelets that came with the charger went on my sedan. The negative nut barely fit and took a couple of tries to thread it in. Hopefully it doesn't come off with vibration as time goes on.

You can always use the blue locktite. It'll keep the vibration worries away.
Also check the pitch of the nut, if it's different, it'll be harder to put on, but chances of cross threading are higher.
This thread makes me think it's easier to replace the battery when it prematurely dies. I still don't get if it's better to use both terminals or use a ground point? It used to be so simple with the cabin plug.

Tons of post on connecting the negative to the battery or grounding point. I wasn’t sure which way was best. I went ahead and connected it to a ground point. Used ctek eyelets and a ctek 7002. Has worked great so far.

Attach to the red jumping post and the negative ground post that is located near it.
You are not supposed to connect directly to the battery.

I wanted to provide some info pertaining to this. The M8 eyelets worked fine on my Nov 2023 992 build (MY24) with a AGM battery, but the M8 eyelets were too large on my July 2024 992 build (MY24) also with a AGM battery. I have had to order the M6 eyelets from CTEK.
