I think of them as whiskers - if they fit through the gap then the butt will follow without getting scratched !

So can they also be set to unfold when unlocking (from outside)? Do the included courtesy/puddle lights illuminate when you unlock the car or when the mirrors unfold? Ideally I'd like to hit the unlock bottom on my key fob, as I'm approaching the car at night, causing the mirrors to unfold and the courtesy lights to glow.

Good news - I just tested it and the folding mirrors DO unfold and the puddle light illuminates (along with the headlights) when you unlock with the fob (or via comfort access). I don't recall seeing an option to not have them fold/unfold in sync with lock/unlock, so this is just how they work.

In the PCM, under Car / Lock settings (or words to that effect). I have mine set not to fold automatically as it gives a little more protection in the garage at home from wayward doors being opened on other cars.
