Interesting the conclusion of tie; seems like the extra $$$ required to get into the Vantage would break that.
Bottom line to me seems to come down to whether you want a "look at me!" car or a mostly under-the-radar car.

You'd be surprised, I was shopping a Vantage a few months ago right before I put the deposit down on my 992; it's much, much cheaper if you're a "leasing" guy. I think zero out the door + 10k miles a year for about $1700/mo is where I was at for a Vantage. I'm a big interior tech guy and I couldn't picture myself being happy with the Vantage over the course of 36 months. The main reasoning behind getting it was definitely the "look at me" factor of the car, it's very impressive and it's a gorgeous car. Ultimately the C2S is faster, in my opinion a much better interior, more practical with the two rear seats, has a "frunk" which is the coolest thing ever, it's low-profile but people that know, know. I definitely get the exotic vibe of the Vantage, and I think the deal breaker was the interior for me. 991.2 v Vantage, I think I would have chosen the Vantage. The 992's interior is just leagues above it.
I'm always glad to see good reviews of Aston Martins. The company is under some financial pressure and I really hope they survive.
Interesting that you guys are pointing out the Vantage is the more "look at me" car of the two. I don't necessarily disagree with this generation but one of the things I really like about my previous gen Vantage (which I am keeping alongside the new 992) is that it actually flies under the radar and is very discreet. Around here in La Jolla where there are a lot of high end cars, it is positively unnoticeable and I really like that. Perhaps that's why I like the looks of the previous generation so much better than the current one (that and I don't like the new car's squinty eyes and weird lip around the grille).

To me, this is classy and elegant...
The last generation Vantage is a much better looking car IMHO--classic AM and much more elegant and less "in your face" than the latest one. The interior of the new Vantage is also much too busy and cramped. Even compared side by side with the 991, the 992 is much cleaner. Concerning the sound, I much prefer a car that you can at least put in a mode that doesn't make you sound like Ricky Racer.
The new vantage is very underrated. Drives completely differently than the carreras but is surprisingly more fun than my stage 2 911T. The 2 areas where porsche has AM faded is the gearbox and the electronics. I think the aston is better than carreras at everything else.
.... Vs turbo or gt3. No contest these 911s will spank it.

Couldn't agree more! I abhor the farty, artificial exhaust pops and crackles that are so popular now... I feel stuck between the soulless and silent Teslas that are rapidly becoming the majority of cars around here and the 'fun car' companies making all their cars sound like they were designed by a 10 year old infatuated with flatulence sounds.
Thankfully there is none of that nonsense in my older cars (including my Vantage which predates this tasteless exhaust fad) and I skipped the PSE on my 992 order. I'm sure I will have to avoid sport mode anyway but that's fine.

sound is subjective for sure. You should hear the amg motor with secondary cat delete pipes fitted its pretty nuts. That said the burbles are more like shell blasts its probably as loud as my R8 was.
Call me crazy but I don't love the way the Vantage sounds. The Porsche sounds nice.
The interior of the Vantage looks really dated- not impressive. It looks cheap, but can't tell without actually sitting in it.
That said, the car is beautiful. It just oozes presence and looks like an exotic.
I for one wouldn't call you crazy at all.
I picked up my 992 C2S in June and love it.
However I was recently offered a test drive and had around 30 minutes with a Vantage. My thoughts.
1) Looks wise the Vantage looks great.
21st century James Bond.
911's have always looked understated. However I'd be less worried in a supermarket carpark with a 911 parked up instead of a Vantage so there is that.
2) Engine noise on the Vantage sounds good but a little over the top. Again, if you like shouty this is a plus for you. Not for me though.
3) Interior of the Vantage is just horrible. Including the steering wheel which looks horrible in the flesh.
I really did not like it at all. Its like Nissans idea of a cockpit tech v Philip Starks.
4) I also noticed how 'nervous' the Vantage was at all times. Not my idea of a planted car.
Getting back into my car, IMO it doesn't stand a chance in any performance test against the C2S.
I test drove a Vantage before finalising the order on my 992.
Biggest comparative differences of the Vantage to the 992:
Sounds better (can't beat a AMG V8)
James Bond looks on the outside
Cheap and tacky look on the inside
Clostrophobically small cockpit
Steering input felt light and dead
Off the line acceleration was meh
Can tell it uses a ZF gearbox, its great but no PDK
... Remeber, these are comparative observations to the 911 IMO. Aside from this, most other dimensions of the car I'd say are pretty close to the 911.
But above all, it drives great, but NOTHING drives like a 911.
Kudos to a Aston Martin for managing to create a car that is almost comparable to the 992.
Suffice to say I completed my 992 order the next day.
Fyi the vantage doesnt give you full power until 500 miles. It intermittently cuts boost and only gives 1-2 psi (instead of 10) during the break in period. Even though the engine is hot tested.
