992 owners... did you get 2S or 4S?
#16
The RWD > AWD, RWD < AWD is a “nonsense” debate over hundreds, if not thousands, of RennList threads.
We could go down this route on almost every Porsche 911 option — RWS, PDCC, PCCBs, etc. People love to rationalize that they didn’t/don’t need to spend money on X, including AWD.
Heck, many base Carrera owners tell S buyers that we wasted our money on a 2S or 4S when the base car is perfectly fine and has “more than you need” for public roads.
Truth be told, the success of the 911 is that it fits a wide variety of household budgets and the diverse income demographics of buyers certainly bears that out. That’s a strength and asset of the car. It’s also why they are so darn popular.
Option it to your taste and budget. Then, enjoy the car. They’re all 992s. They’re all 911s.

something worth mention also is the the 959 is seen as one of the greatest 911s ever... it was turbo charged and AWD... there is no right or wrong there... they're two different experiences... The 2S more appealing to the purist.. the 4S in absolute terms better performance (traction is always good).
PS.. a 4S is essentially a 2S in terms of drive until you lose traction and then it shifts forward.. I've watched my traction gauge and it rarely shifts power to the front... maybe will do so more in rain or snow..

To be fair, the two cars have different feel. Of course they do.
The 2S has a lighter, more playful character. The 4S feels rock solid.
Is it a huge difference? No. Could I pick it out in a double blind test? Yes, I think so.
I don't have snow, I prefer the feel of the 2S and it's $7000 cheaper. Pretty much a no-brainer.
Since this is a daily driver - I would have stretched for the 4S if I had to deal with snow and I really wouldn't be that worried about it. The differences are pretty subtle.

This same topic has played out on the Lambo forum from time to time. My Lambo is AWD and there are those who only want RWD. This is why they make different cars. I like the AWD in the Lambo overall, but hate it at slow speeds as it feels very heavy in that car. For a DD, I went with the C2S as I live in Texas and simply don't "need" AWD. Like other have said, buy what makes you happy. I did. Enjoy!!

2s is more fun/lively, 4s, even with the same wide body will hold value better and end of the day a more bolted down (some like, some dont)...I'd have probably gone with a 2s given that extra bit of fun factor, but live in the northeast and need a good 4wd system. End of the day, both are great and have their merits...they are also both big gt style 911s so if were really talking fun, Id be going smaller, lighter and vintage haha

Prior generation Carrera 4/4S cars held their value better due the desirable wide body, but now, with every Carrera being a wide body, even the Base, that’s probably out the window for the 992.
There’s industry precedent here. When Subaru decided to simplify things and make the WRX a wide body like the STI, it hurt STI used values and demand.
To the average person, the Base Carrera now looks just like a 4S. The 911 wide body is no longer an exclusive feature of the most expensive trim levels.
