You could keep the car in Jersey at a garage where there is easy train access because you are going to want to get out of NYC on weekends. North Jersey has great roads to cruise. I did it for about 2 years and never regretted it...instant date night or weekends out of NYC...
Be honest with them
what they will do most likely depends on multiple factors
1. how difficult/easy to get allocations and how much demand they have on 992
2. their policy at dealership if they have one
3.their experience positive or negative in similar situations in the past
best case scenario , they refund your deposit
worst case scenario, they don't and you will be upset .. though life is short, so you have to think positive : I just got a promotion at work and moving into NYC and all what it offers , and in 2-3 months you will joke about it
good luck
You need to do a cost analysis. If you back out, what do you lose? Will this affect your credit in any way, did you apply for financing?
If you keep the car and sell it, what would your loss be, a 992 is not readily available, could be attractive for someone. Leave it in Canada, friend/family/storage until sold, what would this end up costing?
Consign to the dealer, see what they can do do limit your loses.
Tough situation, people do keep 911s in the city, but it will cost for parking, unless you've got parking where you will live and believe me, it will get beat up, dents and such, and by the roads.
Look up Hudson stables Hoboken. They will store your car in an amazing garage and bring it to you when needed. If not take the path 10 min to your car.

this. Believe it or not North Jersey has some fun roads, the Catskills in New York State are not far and PA all have some great roads. Trust me you’ll want your 911 for get away weekends to escape NYC once in a while. As others have stated possibly live across the Hudson in NJ and commute in by train or ferry.
……and remember NY, NY is so nice they named it twice.
You can also consider moving to Westchester County, NY or Fairfield County, CT. I've lived in both, along with northern NJ. In fact, when I graduated from college in 1976, I went to work in NYC but purposely moved to NJ so I could buy a brand new Fiat X1/9. I loved that car.
live in ffld cnty and work in nyc. I would agree with the above, depending on your situation westchester or ffld cnty might be good options. Lots of trains into the city in the morning and i still get to drive whenever i want. If you are dead set on NYC do not street park, it will get the s**t kicked out of it.
Doctor in my building street parks a 991.2 Carerra T. Looked really nice for about a week..
Seems like this would be a no brainer. You are taking a job promotion. Should be at least a 30% bump in pay, plus cost of living adjustment, plus re-loc allowance. Just buy the thing already.
Ross must have gone into the dealer to ask for his deposit back... and was never heard from again.
I didn't realize things were so rough and tumble north of the border. LOL
