Here's the companion US Spec 4S review from Car and Driver earlier in the month.

intersting even with more weight and the .2 second rollout factored in for the 4S... 0-60 is the same for both the S and 4S... and both well below the published Porsche figures,

Not sure why the article is dated last week; that is an old review of a EU-spec car. Note the reference to cars being available in fall...

C&D has since tested a US-spec C2S with slightly better results (2.9 0-60; 3.9 5-60; 11.2 1/4 mile):

The German 992 Carrera S tested has a Euro-mandated particulate filter. The US cars do not. The effect on performance in a turbocharged engine is significant.

I am looking at a Carrerra S over the S4.

The 4WD adds weight and would be rarely used in the southern states.

The additional weight is negligible compared to the performance benefits in acceleration and through the corners -- in all conditions.
It's also better in the rain, which is something that happens in the Southern states.

The 4WD adds weight, complexity, increased maintenance costs, reduces turn-in accuracy and feel and reduces trunk space. The 2WD drives amazing in the rain- I’ve daily driven my 911 for 130,00 miles in all weather. There is no reason To choose 4WD unless snow driving is a regular occurrence. I know there are plenty of fans who will jump at the chance to tell me how wrong I am, but the facts speak for themselves.

I disagree.that the benefits of 4WD will be better with the extra weight and the extra cost of the 4S car in the south. JMO.

It does rain and storm here, but my Porsche is in the garage.

I suspect the sale of 4WD cars are much more popular in the northern states.

Seems to be a very polarizing subject split down "party lines" so to speak.

Those that have it swear by it and those that don't swear at it. I live in Houston where it rains a lot and I elected to get the 2S instead of the 4S. I currently have RWD and AWD cars and can't really tell the difference in the rain. In the snow, however, it's a no brainer if that's where you live.

Ask anyone driving Porsche's flagship car, the AWD 911 Turbo and see if they complain about any of these things.

Uh... have you heard of the GT3, GT3RS and GT2RS? All RWD cars.

AWD is perfectly fine and definitely has some advantages but for pure driving enjoyment in non-snow/slick conditions, RWD 911s are always the purist's choice- simpler, more direct feedback, better steering and easier to modulate grip with.

Mind you, I say this as someone who owns a C4S (admittedly a 993, not 992) but would prefer a RWD C2S and that's what I'm getting for my 992.

Again, no wrong choice but AWD is definitely not without disadvantages, 0-60 times notwithstanding. Of course, I personally really don't care about 0-60 times - I'm getting a manual. If that's what you care about, by all means, get a C4S...

I had lunch with a good friend yesterday who used his 991.1 C2S as his daily the last 4 years. We live in the PNW where it just so happens to rain a lot. He never had an issue and said it drove great in all conditions but the snow. He put a dedicated set of snow tires/wheel on Thanksgiving to Feb so he could take it up to Mt Hood skiing and never had an issue driving it in snow either. The other 9 months of the year he ran summer treads and again, no issues in the rain. Ever.

992 S i drove would have ts traction light come one briefly as it scrambles for traction during quick accelerations from a stand still on dry roads in these winter months on Summer tires. 992 4s has no such issues but they feel similar and grippy once they get going and I personally enjoyed 4s more due to the push and pull of AWD which made it fun for me
