It makes it almost indistinguishable from the 991.2 for 95% of the population but I do think it looks good (maybe because of the familiarity).

Strangely on light colors I think sport design looks best

on dark colors I like the standard front.

in person the standard front looks much better than it does in pics

Count me in as one that thinks the Sports Design front makes the 992 strongly resemble the 991.2. That’s def not a bad thing, the 991 exterior is amazing. Personally, I prefer no Sports Design package on the 992.

This question is hardly worth asking. As the responses indicate, you'll get a different opinion every time. Do you prefer Picasso or Renoir? Warhol or Pollack? Bone-in ribeye or New York Strip?

I've posted elsewhere that we own a 9Y0 Cayenne Turbo with the standard Turbo front end. It includes lots of high-gloss black plastic and active aero. I prefer the standard 992 front end for these reasons; the improved approach angle; and the fact that it's the new-wave Porsche design moving forward. I would not criticize anyone who spends the extra cash on the SportDesign front end, however.

We'll be sticking with the standard kit when we order our 992 -- that's 100 percent certain.

Couple more thoughts...

on it making the 992 look like a 991: the designer of the 997-991 said that when they finished the 991, it looked so good his first thought was it would be a problem down the line for them to improve upon. So at least it looks like something good...

Now I’ll be honest, I was like many and didn’t have a good first impression of the 992’s changes in photos, and the stock front end was one of those things I didn’t like.

But I appreciate it more now, especially how it creates this “shark nose” edge to the painted surface, and by putting all the license plates and radiators and moving slats into this black abyss, it leaves what’s left of the painted surface nice and clean (like the back). A designer points that out in some of the Porsche website videos, and I do respect what they were going for.

at the end of the day it’s great they give us options, I think the stock look is completely different on dark vs light colors, so that’s like 2 options in itself, and then the SD look is there for something very different, and it’s cool that the SD front seems fine with either rear.

Another small thing to keep in mind - the sportdesign fascia will likely come standard on the GTS. So you’re paying $4k for something that comes free on the GTS. It’s one of the value components of the GTS that doesn’t count if you prefer standard fascia on the Carrera.

You're getting a lot of opinions in this thread, so let me hit you with undisputed fact.
For water cooled Porsche's, here's the CORRECT order of appearance.

997>991>996>992 with standard front
With sport design on the 992 it looks more like this:
997>991>992>996

Y'all are all welcome and the mods can mark this thread as closed!

I think we need a thread on what’s the best color. Should be equally useful.

And don't forget manual or PDK - I always learn a lot from those threads.

The well respected former head of design of Aston Martin and Jaguar, Ian Callum, said of the 992 that he couldn't have done it better.

Thank you for these photos.Ordering a 992 with my 2019 S MT spec/look would cost an additional $15K eg Sport front end and the stainless interior trim inlay versus piano black.

I prefer the sport design package but agree that it looks similar to the 991.2. Part of why I ordered black was I felt it needed the sport design package the least.

Default Sport Design

I prefer the Sport design Front and Rear look.
I agree with the lighter colors look better with the SD
I also like the rear SD because of the license plate position is higher

This is definitely one of the nicest 992s I’ve seen. Is it yours? So, IMO the SD saves the front, I am still having trouble with the 992 rear end SD and std. Is it possible that the 991.2 was perfect? My favorite since the 993! Of course, it’s all subjective and I love that Porsche gives us so many options. Make each one (spec) seem more special.
