I was building my next 911 the new 922, at the total cost is $135,780, a Carrera S decently optioned, before I went to the dealer I was thinking is this car worth $135,780 USD? I said no, specially when you can see one parked frequently here and there. Prices on Porsches have become ridiculous, I think people buy these cars just blindly because is a 911, like I did with my past one, but this time will pass, may pass forever not because I can't afford one but because I don't see this car being worth $135,780 other than to show people " hey I drive a 911". I'm happy with my old one, might never buy another one. I only see people blindly complimenting Porsche.

Yes indeed prices have gone up too much, but I guess as long as people keep wanting to have the P badge they will continue paying and Porsche will continue to rip off customers on their endless rip off options.

I mean, from a business standpoint, charge what you want, right? I'm not mad at it. You're either into it or you're not.

The 992 is expensive because it's unique & the best. Do some people buy it to say they have a 911? Sure. Others, such as myself, buy it because we want the most unique, most enjoyable experience in a car we can still daily drive.
Want value? Get an M4 or a C63. Good cars.. but no 911.
Also a 992 doesn't have to cost that much. Gain some self discipline. My 992 is a $108k build and will be absolutely perfect for real world use.
Porsche is very, very good at convincing people to buy meaningless options, that much is true. No one needs more than a C2.

Come on Chaps....you are mainly Americans ( ? ) so I would though you would be fully versed and supportive of the free market. Have the money and want...get. Don't....then walk away/chose what you prefer for your individual circumstances / needs. I'd leave the bad old Porsche nonsense to those with a chip on their shoulder. Porsche is a business, not a charity organisation.
To be honest, if the base 992 had been available at the time I bought, I would have definitely struggled to not buy a base car , but what the hell so I went for the 4S , carefully added only about 11% on the build as at European prices we take a real beating compared to the land of the free. I sure didn't need the car , but I wanted it real bad. Done.

Dodge trucks are sold at close to $100K,... Depending on how you option a car, it can get very expensive.. Car prices by all brands have soared.. Honda Civic used to be a $11K car, it's now well into the mid and high 20's... Adjust your income with inflation and maybe you won't feel it.
Can you provide a link? I'm curious.

They're running a massive employee discount sale now but about a year ago I was considering ordering a RAM 3500 diesel truck with all the options and with CA sales tax it was going to cost right around $100K. ... go to their website and option out a diesel 3500 .. Ford and Chevy similar.

OK ladies and gents, I removed a couple of posts that were getting heated for no good reason. Keep it civil, please....
MSRP is very misleading, especially in the truck market. A $28,000 F150 turns into a $60,000 truck just by changing 2-3 base options (bed size, doors, trim package). Few if any trucks are sold at MSRP, dealerships only have one or two on the lot randomly so they can advertise in the Sunday paper a dirt cheap pickup. Those are called a loss leader.
Take the Porsche Macan, the MSRP is $50,800 but if you check every possible option it swells to over $140,000.

I just specced a new 2020 Tahoe...it's 76k and not even the top engine option...the escalade is 99k...at that pricing, 135k for a luxury sports/gt car from Germany seems pretty on par.

Reposting for a third time as this topic seems to come up every so often:
A BIG FWIW:
Bought new 997.2 in 2010 = paid $110k ($131.5k with 2019 inflation)
Bought new 992 = $137k (added more options than 997)
Asked my Dad on some previous Carreras he bought new:
Bought new 993 C2 in 1997 = paid $82k ($131k with 2019 inflation)
Bought new 911 Turbo Look Carrera in 1987 = paid $58k ($131k with 2019 inflation)
